One song I sometimes play on Stepmania (CVS version; latest so far is 7-5-03) is Maxx Paranoia from Tournamix 3. The *.dwi file says that there are background changes to the song. After editing the pointers so that the pictures are with the song file (but leaving the actual script intact [the ....A.............B......C,X thing]), the song plays...but no background changes.

If I want to have any background changes on Stepmania, must I use songs with the *.sm format instead?

Yes. Stepmania does not support the BGCHANGES scripts in DWIs. It has its own defined format in SM files.

Alright...that takes care of part 1.

Part 2...Just about all of the scripts follow a similar format to the *.dwi arrow placing method (20 40 90 B0). I know how to convert notes and other things from *.dwi to *.sm format...but I don't know how to convert the SCRIPT to *.sm. If it was just plain old "beat=file.avi or beat=file.png", I could do it, but many of them have things like this (following from MAXX Paranoia, a Tournamix 3 entry):

D:FILE:scary.png MULT:0,0,1 MOVE:0,-0.3 KEEPPOS LAYER:3;

Basically, how do I put those changes into a *.sm file without ruining it?
