edit: heres a good example with the iidx 7th style soundtrack, you can see its simpler, and if you compare them up close, you can tell the originals are made with so much more quality.

this is what the bootleg looks like (pic taken from ebay):
(shoddy cover)

this is what its supposed to look like:
(fancy cover)

Okay, now take a look at this:

Sure enough, my soundtracks: 2nd, 4th, Solo, 5th, 6th, 7th, Wild Arms 1 and 2 are ALL Ever Anime. 3rd mix is Son May.

I paid like $15-20 US each for these on eBay. They seemed like normal CD prices, and these sure looked like the real thing to me. Look how fancy they are! I've never seen these any other way. I can only imagine the profits that eBay seller has made in the past.

I used to think "bootleg" meant getting CD-R's and VHS dupes. Didn't know there were entire Companies dedicated to this stuff! It appeared to me that Konami was licensing these songs from the Dancemania series, since 5th mix advertised which soundtrack each song was available on. Are these Dancemania bootlegs as well?

I have yet to buy Extreme (which will be legit) but that still leaves the question: Should I re-purchase my old soundtracks!?!? erm.gif

I don't plan to repurchase my soundtracks, as I already have quite a bit of money tied up in it, and the sound quality is almost as good... I will have to compare it to the legitimate EXTREME soundtrack, of course... With the 5-hour minidisk port, of course, some compression will naturally lose some audio quality. I would not willingly purchase a bootleg CD; I don't know whether RedOctane or their supplier(s) is at fault for providing the CDs and not specifying, "These are not the official Toshiba / Konami soundtracks, but rather Taiwanese bootlegs."

Oh, and Bring Da Noise is by Public Enemy and *Anthrax*, not Aerosmith. Like I said, [blank]ing moron.

I just download all the songs I want to hear off of- o wait, thats illegal isnt it!? Wanna know what should be illegal? people selling a cd for $15-25, then you buy the cd only to find that there are like 3-4 songs that you actually like out of the entire cd, so you basically paid $15-25 to hear 3-4 songs. I say screw the record labels.

sorry, :/ I just don't like to waste money, thats all.

i have found that to be untrue for every dancemania cd i have bought. so far all i have is X8, 22, EX1, EX3, trancemania, trancemania3, and honestly, the only one i didnt really like was trancemania3. on every other cd, there is maybe 1-3 songs of the 20-30 songs that i dont like. dancemania albums generally have great music if you have a taste for that kind of music. each album i have (minus tm3) has been worth every penny, and i love them.

In that case you were fortunate, unfortunately for me I have bought other cd's (non bemani) and ended up being extremely dissapointed, I'll never fall for a one-hit-wonder cd again. But unless you have some legal way of listening to the songs before you buy the cd, you're basically taking a gamble, and I just don't like taking that gamble.

That was fast... I just got my DDR EXTREME soundtrack in, and yes, I can clearly tell the difference in quality - the audio is clearer, and the disks are shiny (the bootlegs have flat labels). However, it was a pain getting them off the spindle - I was afraid I'd break the CD getting it off, as the plastic tabs were holding it too firmly. I had to cut them with the mini Swiss Army knife scissors to release the CD...

So this is my track listing for Dance Dance Revolution Extreme: Final Mix on minidisk... For convenience, and since the disk can only hold about 7,000 characters for labels, I labeled the songs with abbreviated titles of six characters each, including the Group titles...

173 - GRADUATION Each Tomorrow

Hardly every song on the arcade playlist, but a pretty good sampling. This is pretty much the complete, final version, although I may add tracks from the US DDRMAX2 when it arrives in fall...

So, in terms of quality, I have four kinds of tracks represented:
AAA - Official Konami/Dancemania CD.
AA - Digitally recorded from US DDRMAX for PS2.
B - Korean bootleg CDs.
C - Recorded analog from DDR Konamix for PS1 (wouldn't let me use the digital cable)

I have to admit, I prefer the older tracks on DDR EXTREME to the new ones, with the Burnin' The Floor remix, the Paranoia and Trip Machine Survivors, and the We Will Rock You mix being exceptions... Very, very cool to have Dam Dariram, Butterfly, Jam Jam Reggae, If You Were Here, and other classics back for the first time since 5th Mix. (Some of my favorites, such as Make A Jam! or Stomp To My Beat, missed the cut, but still.)

CDJapan only has 4th Mix, 5th Mix, 6th Mix, 7th Mix, Disney's Rave and Extreme. If you want 2nd Mix, 3rd Mix, and Solo 2000 you can get legit copies from AnimeNation (animenation.com). They charge a bit more though. CDJapan charges Japanese retail price.
