Hi all!
I'm baaaaack and the search for a metal pad that will actually work and work for me continues.
Yeah, in a fit of "I want a metal pad now!" weak moments, I bought one of those "improved" TX-1000, got it Friday, took me an hour to get it upstairs (35lbs) and right now am waiting for the seller to tell me exactly how and where to return the thing. At least this one has a 30 day return policy.
I've discovered something from the TX-1000 experience though, and that is that I need a flat pad - no brackets, no raised center or corners.
Awhile back something like this was suggested to me as a homebrew. I foolishly said no, because it didn't look like what, in my mind, a metal pad "should" look like: http://www.trinpad.eu/index.asp
It's the Trinpad. And if I could get one I would - but they're usb only and they're in the Czech Republic, so shipping would be as much as the pad.
So, I was poking around and found this: http://www.buynshop.com/productinfo/4991/VG-FUS-MTL01/
Now this looks flat? but the middle ... is that raised or lowered, I can't tell. Also, how would you get the thing apart? From the bottom? Does it work? Do you have to "stomp" to get it to register (a big worry for me), can you mod it (I'm assuming it's foil sensors). And does it really weigh 40lbs? For me that would be close to impossible to carry in here. The TX-1000 almost killed me!
The reason I want a metal pad is so I can play in shoes - it's much more stable and comfortable with me being older, having arthritis and the meniere's disease.
That's also why I want something flat - right now I'm using a mmb dense foam w/raised arrows pad and it's ok. It's just not responsive enough and there's the shoes issue. I also need something that doesn't weigh a ton. I'm on the third floor, there's no one to help me carrying things and technically I'm not supposed to carry more than 10lbs. I can carry more if I keep taking breaks, but it's not easy.
Flat means no raised center or corners, no brackets, nothing that I'm going to catch my foot on or trip over. The balance thing makes this a biggie.
The Trinpad I now think would have been great - it's carpeted, so it's got to be quieter (big plus), can go from barefoot to probably just about any shoe that doesn't get caught on carpet, it's completely flat AND the weight of the pad - it's only about 25lbs.
And that's that. If anyone has any information, ideas, suggestions, please let me know. I'm beginning to think I'm never going to have a metal pad, I'm feeling really frustrated and confused. _________________
