1-inch foam pad for Wii and PC?

Hi guys, I'm looking into getting 1-inch foam pads for the Wii. A bit of research says USB mats should work fine with the Wii - anyone know if this is true?
I'd like to be able to use them on the PC as well.

The other issue is that I'd prefer the mats without the foam. I bought some 1-inch mats years ago for my PC and the mats eventually died, but I still have the foam.

I live in Australia and the shipping cost of the foam effectively doubles the cost of the order.

Any thoughts?
