If anyone has one of these, I would like to know how good the pad actually is in comparison to a Blue Shark. I've been waiting for MYMYBOX to get the three inch pads with a bar for like 3-4 months now and I am tired of waiting. |

The ION metal pads suck so bad. Those pads use contact sensors, which can crap out on you at any time. They also don't replicate the arcade feel. The bars that come with them are pieces of crap too. I owned a pad like that before and the bar broke in two weeks. Basically, Blueshark>>>>>>>>ION metal pads. I would wait for the Bluesharks to come back into stock. You could also get a Cobalt Flux, but I've heard they haven't been doing to well with their pads, plus they don't come with bars. _________________

I've seen those ION pads on ebay and always was like hmmmm, NO.
SML, when you say contact sensors, do you mean like the ones the RO afterburner uses? Only one I can think of. There's some sort of foil on the underside of the arrow and a metal (copper?, aluminum?) "plate" on the bottom surrounded by foam? Is that a contact sensor? Sorry for the stupid question.
I'd pretty much say that most of what you'd find on fleabay metal pad-wise, probably not a great idea. TX-1000, Blade, Ninja come to mind. Although, I've read a couple people say the Blade? isn't the worst cheap metal pad out there, just kind of insensitive. _________________

That's one kind. Contact sensors use 2 pieces of metal with a wire attached to each one going to the control box. When the arrow is pressed down and the metal touches, it completes the electrical circuit and sends the signal to the game. Most pads use this, whether it's foil and copper like the TX's or galvanized steel like the cobalt fluxes.
Foot Sensors are the other kind, the ones they put in arcade cabs and Bluesharks. _________________

Before you doodz get all comfortable with your willy-nilly partial understanding of sensors, I'll clear it up.
"CONTACT SWITCHES" is a short way of saying "SWITCHES THAT TRANSMIT AN ELECTRON CURRENT WHEN THEY TOUCH PHYSICALLY". Contact switches are the best switches, the good switches, the decent switches, the bad switches, and the worst switches. Most switches are contact switches. This includes the sensors in pads like TX1000's and RO's, as well as the sensors in pads like the DTMTX and the Cobalt Flux. This includes many "ribbon" switches, but NOT the ones used in arcade DDR pads.
The only other functional type of switch is a Piezoelectric pressure switch, in which the piezoelectric crystals transmit an electric current when under pressure, although they are in contact with the active and ground wire at all times. This material is the basis of most "tapeswitches" or "ribbon switches", AKA the things in arcade DDR pads. tapeswitches _________________

I still stink at wiring and welding though, and my carpentry leaves room for improvement, otherwise I'd be making bank right now.
Anyway, Ryudo, there are a few topics on the IoN Dance Pad out there on this board. I could swear this site had a topic search feature :/ To the best of my memory, the ION looks pretty nice, but the panels tend to dent, sensitivity is less than perfect, the bar is TERRIBLE, and the pricetag isn't appealing. If you're looking to toss that kind of money out on a commercial pad with this basic design, you're much better off with a TX4000 or BlueShark GXG, but be aware that the TX4000 performs best with a slightly modified sensor and the bar does wobble (it's just as good as the Blueshark one though), and MyMyBox has HORRIFIC customer service. _________________
