(First off, wow, haven't been here in years! And I haven't played DDR in the same length of time, but a few hours of rhythm and music games--pop'n, beatmania, taiko and DDR-- at a friend's house has brought me back!)

I'm going to be modding this softpad: http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=35253 . I have the cash to get an ignition or something like that but that's really very expensive, plus I'm going off to college in August so my mat will stay here. This looks like a viable option. A couple questions, though...

1. I had modded one of these back in the day, but I never used shoes with it. Anyone do? Have you noticed it breaking quicker or does it hold up pretty well?

2. I'm worried about the pad slipping (the whole thing including the wood, not just the pad under the plastic.) Has anyone put anything on the bottom of the wood to prevent slippage?

Thanks guys!

The only thing with shoes is if you play fast songs and drag your feet a lot, the tape that you use to secure the top piece of plastic down will peal. You might have to replace the tape about once a month if you play 9s and 10s every day.

Generally (and by generally I mean about all the time), you don't want to use shoes on softpads. They tend to shift a lot more and the pad breaks down faster.
