|
|
If this is the wrong place for this thread, please move it.
I've got my old computer tower sitting around at my house with no use, so I came up with a potential idea for it the other day. Wipe pretty much everything off except necessities for running and Stepmania. Then I need to find out if there is a way to use a TV as a monitor.
Since I can't afford a metal pad right now, but I have the ITG bundle and have never used the pads, I'd just mod those with plywood and that plastic covering stuff (and probably make raised platforms with cardboard too) into a doubles mat.
This is also means I need some good PS2 to USB adapters, or I need a way to cut off the PS2 ends and make them strictly USB.
I also need to know how I can connect the CPU to my TV, if it's possible.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me! _________________

so basically, you need to get a video card that has s-video out(or check if you have s-video out on your current card, you probably dont) or you need a TV with a VGA input(which are pretty rare, typically only HDTVs have them). If you want an easy way, i'd just pick up a cheap CRT monitor unless you know much about computers and you MUST play on a TV. i'm going to guess your computer has an AGP port, which if so, this card should be fine.

as far as adapters go, i reccomend just replacing your pads with something USB compatable. They're just soft pads, so i dont see the point in paying about $15 for an adapter when you can get infinitely better pads for around $60. I reccomend the BNS pads.

but if money is that big of a problem, the best adapters out there(from what i hear) are the EMS ones.

it has 2 ports, but your going to wanna get 2 anyway. whenever theres 2 ports, there seems to be a problem where if you press more than 2 buttons on both controllers at once, it doesnt work right(basically, only 4 buttons can be pressed at once). So you're gonna need to get 2 if you play versus.
thats about all i can think of. good luck with the setup. |

My computer does have an S-Video Out port.
I would get some foam pads but the thing is, I already have 4 DDR pads and 1 PIU pad lying around my house. I've tried my Ignition 3 many times with my computer and I have never been able to get it to work.
In retrospect this is probably a bad idea, but I have no reason to play dancing games right now because I can't play the sims I really want to without going to the arcade and dishing out a bunch of cash, only to fail them. _________________

I'd be the person to ask if you need help with modding for doubles :)
Quote: | They're just soft pads | They're the best softpads. I've had mine for a year, and they're still the most sensitive pads i've played on. Quote: | (and probably make raised platforms with cardboard too) | I really don't reccomend that. The plastic needs to be as tight as possible, and raised platforms would cause the plastic to be loose.

You could put pretty much anything from SM onto it (but rolls don't work). You just need to mod your PS2. If your video card isn't the best, I'd say that this is the way to go. (It's much cheaper, but there's a lot of file converting involved) _________________

I'll have to pull the TV out and check for the input.
Here's the TV I'd be playing on. I don't know if that's a good size or not.

yeah, get a new video card (AGP/PCI-e/PCI)
PCI is pretty much what ALL computers *can* use (standard/old type of thing)
that's what i use in my setup (which is my own dedi-cab..thing)
i run a cheap-buttocks computer i had lying around, an old tv now that i bought a new 26" LCD tv, and i bought some $30 speakers and set it all up.
basically all you need is a PCI video card, or whatever youre computer uses, that has s-video (if youre TV has the input for it), or just standard composite (the good 'ol yellow plug) with it.
thats what i use on mine.
(id get pics but i cant find any now..) _________________

that should get the job done if you dont feel like fumbling around with checking s-video connections.
i reccomend getting some decent computer speakers as well. i got some $50 logitech ones recently and they have a great subwofer and good sound quality. i reccomend them. |

Okay well my TV does have the S-video input.
My TV has some pretty nice Polk Audio speakers and a subwoofer hooked up to it, but I still have the tiny box speakers and subwoofer I used with my old computer as well.
I guess if I want to use the TV's sound system I need audio cables and a headphone -> RCA splitter? I don't know if my computer tower has a headphone port though. I looked when I took it out of the desk and couldn't find one. _________________
