Ok, so I've successfully made simfiles in the past, which have been on-beat and on-sync. So I do already know how to make them I 'm not asking for a walkthrough of the sorts. What I do need is some help getting the BPM for this one particular song, and it's pissing me off because every auto calculating program gives me a different BPM, ranging from 117-129, and when I try it manually I get different results every time as well, ranging from 118-120. All I need here is help getting the frick BPM for this song (I've never had problems with others in the past, I don't know why I just can't get this one). If anybody who has done this before could help, it would be much appreciated, as I need this simfile done soon for a freestlye tournament next month. If you think you can take a minute to help me please either PM me or respond in this thread and I'll send you the .ogg file.

Well I don't particulalry want to disclose the song publicly because it IS for a tournament and I'd like to keep that between as few people as possible until the day of, preferably nobody who will be attending the tournament. I'll send you a PM with that information now though, but please don't post any info about the song other than it's BPM here, if you can get it

It's most likely because the BPM of the song actually is 117-129.

haha, ok I figured I'd get the "maybe you are being a noob" answers. It's the same constant beat through the entire song and it doesn't change, I'm positive of that. I'll just have to pay really close attention to it in SM to find out if it's going fast or slow and make appropriate changes I guess. Thanks anyways for attempting to help guys.

I use the demo of MixMeister Express 6 to get song BPMs, and, minus one or two very minute adjustments to the nearest decimal palce, have no problems.

I've tried that one, but the auto programs don't like this song because there is a decent-sized period of silence I'd guess. I'm getting closer to it now, but since the song is 4 minutes any amount off is quite noticeable by the end of the song.

Get a basic idea of the BPM, then turn the clapper on in Edit Mode and adjust the BPM and offset until it sounds like it matches up. Then go into the song options and turn the play speed down to 30-50%, and see if it syncs up there as well. If it syncs up perfectly slowed down, it'll be flawless in 100% time.

I agree with this. Usually I can go by ear, then add the assist ticks to match it up. Auto-BPM trackers aren't worth anything.

That's what I was doing originally, except that I hate the clapper thing it messes me up, so I made a chart full of downs and did it that way. After much frustration I realized at some point that the track I had was less than perfect, ie it did a bit of a skip in 3 separate spots. I recorded the track off a video so that was my problem, which is why it would seem the bpm was never on by the end of the song. I re-recorded the track without skips, and it took me less than 5 minutes to get the bpm and have it flawlessly synched. Guess I should have paid more attention to the track, but the skips were all really small and actually almost sounded identical to how the music goes so it was difficult to pick out. Thanks for the suggestions everyone, even though nothing new was really offered. I can't wait to do my freestyle now!
