That game is nuts...well to me it is.

My friend just got it this week. I think after playing it for one night I felt totally inferior to games like that. The reason why I say this is because I caught onto DDR and Guitar Hero pretty quickly, and after playing that, whoo.

Any advice as to what you can do to keep your place on the board?

Keep playing until you know it well enough. It's how everyone else has done it. And for any other future questions like this, the only way to get past these problems is to keep playing until the problems give in and go away.

I think beatmania IIDX has one of the hardest learning curves of any Bemani. It's a LOT harder to learn early than say DDR or PIU... and it's not horribly catered toward beginners either.

Later on, if you want to push further, investing in the superior Japanese beatmania IIDX games might be helpful, but that requires mod chips/import capable PS2.
