Hi all,
I'd just like to welcome you to the fun and healthy experience that is ITG.
All the experts tell us to exercise, exercise, exercise, but the conventional equipment, classes, and routines are so booorrrrinng.
Stepping on the arrows is a blast, and if you do it often, say, every other day or so you will get better and better. ie. faster and faster
You might even be able to take on some of the younger folk one day. (that is my personal goal)
Word of caution: Just like any physical activity, start slow. Remember how you felt the day after your first day back gardening, golfing, swimming, spring or fall cleaning. If you were lucky you were stiff, unlucky and you couldn't move to get out of bed in the morning.
Don't pay any attention to those young squirts who tell you it only took them three months to start playing expert mode.
We have a different schedule and their's don't apply.
Personally, I have been jumping on the arrows for approx. two years and have just started having some success with songs harder than easy mode.
I don't care if I never reach expert, I'm having fun and I see improvement in my skills every time I do it.
Oh, by the way, this is also a great chance to exercise with your kids! Or challenge them to beat you, and see what happens. My daughter isn't quite as nuts about ITG as I am, but we are pretty even when we go to the arcade. Yep, I go to the arcade. My motto is: If I'm payin', than I'm playin'. That was my first goal, to be good enough to not embarrass my kids when I play with them. It worked! I may only play on easy, but it's fun seeing that S+ or star come up on the screen saying 'you done good!'.
Come on, lets chat, compare scores, talk about our aches and pains, and how much better we would be if only we were 10 years younger.

any way thanks for opening this here thread |
Anytime
About that balance thing, that's why I got a hard pad (CF). When I started getting faster on my Ignition, I felt unstable and wanted my shoes back on.
Unfortunately, if you use them on a soft pad it will last about 30secs.
BTW, I'm going over to the YMCA today and ask if I can start a class for us Old People. I know they have the pads and games so all they are missing is an instructor!
Wish me luck,

You're going to love your new CF. Did you get the arcade mod. with it?
I got the clear panels because I kept getting lost and occasionally falling off the dang thing!LOL
Glad it's only an inch thick, couldn't fall to far or hurt myself too bad.
Just got back from the YMCA. They had me fill out a comment card and I offered to teach a class of adults DDR.
It was just coincidence but she said her daughter goes to the middle school my daughter goes to. Her daughter also loves DDR and comes to the after school intramurals I hold there. So, maybe that will help get my 'foot in the door'. Can't hurt.
I took my ITG software along to demonstrate that I know what I'm doing, but they don't have any equipment after all. The stuff they used for our district wide activity afternoon they said they rented.
I wonder who rents out Ignition pads, consoles and game software?

I found a lot of places do now weird isnt it? I think i would just as soon own mine though cause then i know its condition. But for something like that rentals might be better. Ask them who they rented it from and then that can open another door for you if you get real involved in teaching.
I never thought to order the arcade mod wonder if i can still order it? Thats if it ever gets out of Salt Lake LOL
If i didnt have to drive for ever just to get to where they have this kind of stuff i would check things out here although i am not as good as you yet. I still have like seven songs(ITG) i cant do on easy 2.5 and them dang blue 1/8 notes are still surprising me i am getting better at them though _________________

That's an excellent idea! I think I'll go back over there today and bug them again.
Wait I just looked outside and it's a blizzard! Maybe I'll go tomorrow.(g)

Let us all know when it finally gets there. (I know, I'll hear you jumping for joy, all the way up here.)

We bought acreage 23 years ago in horse country, but now it's all mini-subdivisions and mini-malls.
Hubby and I are looking to move out when our youngest graduates in four years. Too much traffic!

Those blue notes are usually in some kind of pattern. Usually three steps and it's the middle one.
I know it's hard to change gears when you're going along on the beat real nice, then have to add another in between.
Took me forever to get that down. I think it's easier when you have more of them, so it's not so jarring when they appear.
Of course, the legs have to co-operate too.

I've been challenging myself lately by saying, "if I get an s or better, I have to try the next harder level."
Most of the time it's pretty comical, 'cause they're too many arrows in too small a space. And I get a dozen steps into it before I start laughing and give up.
But you know, I don't get off the pad, and if I see a pattern I recognize I'll do it. Even tho I fail miserably at the end.
Got a DDR/ITG intramural at school in a couple hours, so I've got to pack up all my stuff and haul it over there.
And my daughter is home sick, so she can't help me this time.... I know, I'll get the other kids to help.
Ya, well, she's not THAT sick, if ya know what I mean. Not feeling well at school, and a miraculous recovery as we pull into the driveway....
ya, feel like I've been played. Not the first time, won't be the last.

We are here to entertain everyone as well as ourselves.
See, we learned long ago to not take ourselves tooo seriously. Shortens the lifespan. |

Awww, poor thing, both of you!
Please be very careful with that new pad, it's really heavy!
Wouldn't want you to drop it on your toes or anything. Geesch, wouldn't that be a pickle. New pad and broken toes. Yikes.
Will the nice delivery man leave it right next to your door? Or will you be lying in wait and pounce on him? |

Yeah, they are heavy, i had to take 2 of them up 20 stairs to get them to my ddr room. Not fun, but order the arcade mods for the pads, they help you stay in place and not fall off |

Then the mechanic just opened it up and tested it that way and low and behold there were some other employess snickering at me. _________________

Wouldn't it be great to get good at ITG, go back and show off?
That's enough of an incentive to practice, practice, practice!
I've got to go to the arcade more often. (usually when the young ones are in school)(g)
I emailed an arcade near me and asked if they could offer age brackets for the tournament they were having. She said no, but planned on having a beginner bracket at their next tournament. So I'm practicing for that one, when ever the heck they decide to have it.

Since i got screwed on my job (by dad who owns it) once i walked out i never walked back in there but there will be a day when i walk back in and at this point even i could outdo just about all of them that work there.
I had a cousin who was watching some kids one day and thought eh it aint that hard so he tried it and realised it taint all that easy.
When i open my own arcade (gotta get all the legal muck) I am gonna find out what the kids what like the ddr games and itg and try to have several for them so if one is busy they can use another one etc. I believe in customer satisfaction as long as its reasonable _________________
