i havnt been up with all the new releases and stuff so let me get some stuff straight. in the groove is a ddr style game for the arcade and ps2.(der). however in the groove 2 is a ddr style game for the arcade, but for the ps2 its going to be a pump it up style game. if so is there going to be a regular(ddr) itg2 coming out to for the ps2? also release dates would be great. _________________

Hey,
ITG2 is called Pump It Up:In The Groove 2 (I believe). There has been some confusion as to which game it represents (DDR/PIU), but it actually is a DDR game. I don't believe there is a release date yet but I could be wrong so if anyone wants to correct me, feel free. _________________

As far as I know, only the dedicated cabinets were named Pump It Up: In The Groove 2, as Andamiro designed those cabinets. Boxors are still just called In The Groove 2. _________________

And when ITG2 comes out for home consoles, it'll have a 4-arrow layout like DDR, not 5 arrows like pump. _________________

I knew they were going to confuse some people.
The only connection between In The Groove and Pump It Up is that Andamiro, creator of Pump It Up, provided the new dedicated ITG2 cabinets and pads to RoXoR. The pads are quite .
There is a "Pump It Up" logo on the cabinets, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't appear anywhere in-game. It also doesn't appear on ITG2 machines that were upgraded from a DDR cabinet (as all* ITG1 machines were). According to one press release, the official name of the game is "Pump It Up: In The Groove 2", but this is pretty much universally ignored and generally doesn't show up many places other than that one press release.
ITG2 for PS2 has not even been announced yet, but there's no evidence yet that Andamiro will have a role in it. Will there be a "Pump It Up" logo anywhere on it? Maybe or maybe not, depending on the terms of the agreement between the companies. But what can be said almost for certain is that ITG isn't going to be going to PIU-style gameplay. That just wouldn't make a lot of sense, because Pump It Up is still an ongoing series that's still meeting the needs of its fans, unlike arcade DDR which was discontinued in 2002.
* It's not 100% accurate to say that all ITG1 machines were upgraded from DDR cabinets, since a few people took pleasure in BoXoRing various strage things just to prove it could be done, and a few people probably built their own cabinets, but essentially all the ITG1 machines that you'll see in arcades are upgraded DDR cabinets. _________________
