Here's the way I Go:

Start of PM:
REASONS THE THREAD SHOULD BE LOCKED or MOVED

Middle of PM:
LINK TO THREAD IN NEED OF LOCK/MOVE

Conclusion:
THANK MOD FOR THEIR TIME IN READING THIS PM.

Is this really the best way to request a lock? PLEASE don't flame me for asking about the way you guys go about it. What do you feel is the most apropriate way of dealing with PMing mods? Also, is it considered FLAT OUT ANNOYING if a user requests more than one lock a day. If you do it more than once then are you just considered "Lock Happy"?

Thanks
~Blair~

Usually the PMs I get include a reason as to why it should be locked, which is fine. Either that or just a link to the thread with "Is anything wrong with this?"

I don't really care if you thank me or not, either. But if you choose to thank whatever mod, that's fine by me E10.gif

As for being "lock happy," you PMing us doesn't mean we'll lock it. I've had a couple different PMs where I've had someone send me a thread that didn't need to be locked. But usually in that case I'll tell them why it didn't need to be.

So it could be just written like this

To: (RTFAQ)SPIEK

Message:

Is there anything wrong with this?

Another question: the last few times I've PM'ed a mod, they haven't responded (not locking the thread, or not even telling me the thread was perfectly acceptable) how will I know if they decided to lock or not?

Thanks

That's easy - did they read your PM?

Check your PM box and look to see if it's in your Sentbox. If it is, then it was read, and you were cheerfully disregarded.

I wouldn't bother being so wordy in PMs either. We get them a lot, and sometimes brevity is best. Just title it "Lock prease" or whatever and put in the URL in the body and be done with it. No fuss, no muss.

And just to let you know, the times the moderators are on isn't the same for all moderators. I know you PM'ed me, but between about 3pm to 2am EST it won't do you any good. I know that's probably peak time for posters, you'll just need to try another mod. And for me, a link to the thread will suffice. I can assess the problem from there. And if I don't see a problem, I'll generally PM you back to ask what the deal is, if you haven't told me already.

We don't have this actively linked anywhere on the forums, but there's always the following link:

http://www.ddrfreak.com/phpBB2/viewonline.php

Bear in mind that just because you see someone online doesn't mean they're going to be on the forums for the next 5 minutes. The viewonline.php page can't tell you right away if someone has stopped browsing the site or otherwise left their computer - it'll eventually say "This user hasn't made any more requests, so we assume they're gone."
