So, like, I'm using Stepmania 3.95, and when I try to load it up using either Paintmania or ITG Beta6.0 as the theme, it crashes. Uh...

Not quite sure if that helps, but... It looks like a really sweet theme, and it'd be pretty neato if someone could help me with this. Thanks. _________________

Those themes don't work on CVS, get 3.9
There's a better ITG2 themes for CVS, it's called Groove 2.2 _________________

Paintmania is absolute crap and anyone that has used it will say the same. I hardly got 2 songs in before I changed it it looks so bad (can't see your mods? WTF). A monkey could do better. It would also help if this weren't a joke theme. _________________

Whenever i try to start Stepmania I get a runtime error...Like 60% of the time. Everything is default, I do nothing but add songs or work on the ones I have. It's an on and off thing.I want this to stop completely -_-;

Hi. Two questions regarding Stepmania 3.95 CVS:
1) Is it possible to show the letter grade of the songs on the wheel? I know 3.9 does it, but 3.95 seems to have it disabled and I can't seem to figure out where it is being disabled.
2) Not really a tech problem, but since I'm in this thread anyway: is there any "big" differences between 3.9 and 3.95? I know 3.95 has the ability to read rolls and SMO, but anything else? Any bugs in 3.95 that can't be found in 3.9?
Thanks a lot. |

edit: nvm I didn't put in a profile yet | The most recent release of 4.0 doesn't work with SMOnline. You have to use the previous update. _________________

I have a problem, some songs in my songfiles don't work in stepmania.
They appear in stepmania as a lot of small pieces of the song are being skipped. Any way to fix this? |

Is this the right place to post a SM Linux tip? Hmm... Well, here it is anyway.
I run SM3.9 for linux, as well as SM4CVS. For awhile I was also running SM4CVS for Windows under Wine as well.
My song collection is sortof extensive, and I didn't want to copy the files between the various StepMania versions I'm running, since that would result in all the songfiles existing on my hard drive multiple times. If you are in this boat as well, you should know that symbolic links can help you out.
I have my actual songfiles in
/usr/games/StepMania-3.9/Songs
I need them to show up in
/usr/games/StepMania-4/Songs
That way I can play the same songs in both the stable and the new build without having multiple copies to maintain and store.
From the consoles, I type the following
rm /usr/games/StepMania-4/Songs -fR
ln -s /usr/games/StepMania-3.9/Songs /usr/games/StepMania-4/Songs
For those unfamiliar with symbolic links:Symbolic links are like OS-level shortcuts which are transparent to most applications who are then tricked into thinking the files are local to them, when in actuality they are on the other end of the sym link. You can actually cd into the link and it will still look local.
By doing this, I can add my new songfiles to one folder and it will work in both versions of the game without me messing about with config files.
If you are running SM4CVS under wine, the same operation can make your song collection available within it as well.
rm ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/StepMania\ CVS/Songs -fR
ln -s /usr/games/StepMania-3.9/Songs ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/StepMania\ CVS/Songs
