900+ is fairly common for alot of 7k and Another songs. When charts hit 1500-1700 notes, then stuff is getting a bit too insane.

Also, it's not the amount of keys that make songs hard. Presto and Atomic Age have really low note counts, and I have trouble clearing them, but I can whistle through songs with twice the notes, like The Strong Jaeger. Then there's songs with dumbass endings and general screwiness, like The Earth Light [a] and Rislim Remix [a].

Now, obviously not every IIDX song is cracked as what I've been showing you (much of is the upper-level songs). For the most part, the middle gound of IIDX songs from 5stars to 7stars on 7key, are not much harder than playing Maniac/Heavy on DDR, and it's pretty respectable to get up to that area. Only once you get into the Flashing 7s/8s of 7key/Another do things start to get hard.

On a side note, I wonder if they'll retain the old "Another shares the 7key ranking" that's existed for the longest time. I can already hear the cries: "Why is 511 Another so haaaard? It's only a 1star!!??"

http://www1.ocn.ne.jp/~hibroad/score/index.html is the link for IIDX notecharts.

Huh?

Is it me or do the 5Key and 7Key difficulties have differing songlists?

http://media.ps2.ign.com/media/748/748592/img_2793089.html -5Key

Is that just a beta quirk? Or a sign of things to come?

Also, they're going to have to remove ALL the IIDX references in the interface! Sounds fun. E15.gif

Well, this is shaping up to be a very well made mix/style (what are we going to call it? o_o) for the US consumption. biggrin.gif

Maybe this year's Extreme 2 and beatmania (US) will share some songs? :> Wonderful cross-advertisement.

I'm already getting this as it is... but if they include NEMESIS... and maybe even SOMETHING WONDERFUL. *_* OMG... *dies*

I'd assume that since there are a lot of Beatmania (as in 5-key BM) songs, they would go in the 5 Keys mode songlist instead of having whole new 7keys notecharts constructed for them.

I'm sure if it was sold for profit, Konami would clamp down on it (I'm sure it's a matter of time before they clamp down on ITG).[/quote]

Getting a AAA in IIDX is akin to getting a AA in DDR (US releases excluded). You need to get 8/9 of the max score (AA is 7/9 and it continues down to F), which is total notes x2. Comboing is irrelavent to getting grades, just as long as the score adds up right.

No to the AA comment, then yes to everything else.

Getting a AAA in Beatmania is more like playing a song in training mode and getting 17/20 steps Marvelous. I think of it this way: Max 300 has 555 steps. If you can get marvs on 494 of those steps, then who cares what your other 61 steps are? The idea is that 494 marvs is damn good and AAA worthy, even if you jump off the pad with 20 steps left to go and fail. I don't like how DDR how special rules for Es and AAs. If I fail a song with enough dance points to earn a C, then give me the C damnit!

It's worth saying here that Beatmania IIDX has the most awsome judgements, grades, and evaluations in all of Bemani. And they've never changed it once, unlike DDR which changes all the time. (Ultra-noobified explanation here. Most of the information is true or true enough because I simplified it all to the point of sounding like the instruction manual for the game.)

That's the thing about IIDX though, you can attain the highest grade and fail. Where's the logic? [/OT discussion]

That brings up a good point, are they going to modify the system so that's not a concern? (I mean make it like DDR where unless your gauge is empty there's still a chance)

Maybe someone had a chance to try it at E3 and can let me know if I'm off or not? E10.gif

DJP said that right now the plan is for 5 Key and 7 Key mode to each have separate songlists. I think the idea is that we're actually getting two Beatmania games on one disc. If you think about it, we never got anything from the Beatmania I and III universe, either. So even though the fans over here are mostly asking for Beatmania II stuff, you just can't skip the BM I & III stuff that came first (or simultaneously). There are seven (7) PS2 IIDX games and and least seven (7) more PS1 BM I games for Konami to choose songs from. Which is cool because now we're getting something like: Beatmania: The Really Complete Mix. E7.gif

Pop'n Usagi! - The logic is this: Let's say that 450/30/10/0/0 is a full combo AAA. Your flashing greats are worth 2 expert points each, the normal greats are worth 1 point each, and your 10 goods are worth zero points. Remember, we don't care where you got the 10 goods. Now, swap the 10 goods for 10 poors (misses). Since misses are also worth zero points (duh) you still have a AAA. But if pass/fail mattered, then it would matter which 10 notes your poors were on. And since every note is equal, pass/fail shouldn't matter. Here's another way of looking at it. Player 1 has 450/30/0/0/10. Player 2 has the same. But player 1 gets a AAA and player 2 gets a F. Wheres the logic in that? And is 930/980 = 94.89% really worth an F grade?

Point I was trying to make, is that you need a certain percentage, about 88%EX, of a score to get a AAA, much like how you need 92%points to get a AA in DDR (which is why I said US releases excluded, since FC = AA). The execution of getting these goals in IIDX is much harder.

Pop'n Usagi: With a full normal bar, it takes only 6 or 7 missed keys (or a good few mashed keys) in the ending measures to fail a song, since a pass in IIDX requires the bar to be at or above 80% at the end. This opens up for full combo E grades (sup Gambol), and failing AAA grades (sup Holic Another). Not to be outdone, it's possible to perfect combo AAA border clear a song, if you feel inclined to try.

Perfect Combo = All Flashing/Normal greats
Border Clear = End a song with exactly 80%.

I just wanted those headphones they were using at the beatmania booth. Those things HELLA' cancelled the outside noise!

I really like the fact beatmania is a hybrid of the old and the new. USA needs to be introduced to the old school. It'd be super-1337 if they brought back that fake-ass Fab 5 Freddy (errr, DJ Konami) to teach us how to play. XD

Oh yeah, for anyone who went to E3... The song ratings on the demo won't reflect the final ratings. In other words, don't pat yourself on the back too hard for beating a flashing 7 called "In My Eyes". =P

(Oh yeah, I have a handful of beatmania t-shirts too!) E4.gif

I never thought of being a dj. E19.gif

Maybe they'll have DrumMania coming to the U.S. E13.gif

This is DJ Konami! Gwa ha ha. You know, you can still see him at MGL on the BM3: The Final machine, when you play Doubles Mode.

OMG I R L33T I GOT AAA ON FLASHING 7 ON IIDX @ E3 I R 2DXGOD

Hey, can I get 3 of those shirts? I need more prizes for my beatmania III tourney at the end of June, and those shirts would kick much arse....please!
