Hi, basically im looking to get a new pad and came across a few, one of which had metal panels:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/DDR-METAL-DANCE-MAT-PAD-PC-XBOX-PS2-NEW-Dancing-Stage_W0QQitemZ360074972659QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item360074972659&_trksid=p3286.m14.l1318#ebayphotohosting

Now my first thought was wow! no more cracking arrows, but still had doubts whether these are practical, for example having to stomp slightly harder for them to register because of the inflexibility compared with the standard plastic panels like the TX-2000.
So i wanted to know whether people know, either from experience or not that metal panels are better or worse than the standard panels.
Note: the metal panels still use the standard foil stickers to register.

Thxx

Hi there

That looks like a TX-6000

Here's another site with that pad: http://www.fitnessandkids.com/TX-6000-Dance-revolution-DDR.html

Doing a quick conversion in my head, the price is about the same - pound vs. dollar

Those arrow panels are not metal, they are made of hard acrylic plastic.

It's a shame the TX anything at this point is still using foil as the arrow sensors. For some reason, nothing I can quantify as I don't even have a metal pad yet, just makes me think .. oh god, it's gonna end up needing sheet metal modding - and I can't handle tin snips let alone taking a dance pad apart and doing all that.

Unless someone's modifying the 6000 and using metal, idk. Seems like you'd have to "stomp" harder if they are in fact metal - unless they are even slightly adjustable (which it doesn't really look like?).

I'd write the seller and ask about what the arrows are made of and see if you get an answer. While you're at it, ask the seller about things like replacement panels and control boxes E13.gif Couldn't hurt?

Personally, I won't bid or buy from anyone if I ask a question and don't get a reply. And in general, I'm just leery of buying a metal pad off ebay.

I've gotten burned on buying foam pads there!

They aren't metal; they are wood with metal on top. panels sit on a light foam. There's no flexing and thus not as much cracking. You would have to step a bit harder, unless you do a sheet metal mod, in which case they're ridiculously sensitive no matter what.

i see, well i asked the seller about the pad and he states the panels are metal, but a wooden panel with metal on top makes sense, and it defo sounds like u need to stomp slightly harder which i dont think is a problem tbh, i currently have a TX-2000 but its really old and is gradually dieing, i metal sheet modded that pad and ill prob just take them out and put them on a new pad.

I too am sceptical about getting pads off ebay but, if the seller actually specialises in selling metal pads and states he gets them straight from the factory and has a tonne of positive feedback i feel its kinda safe, plus i hear the European ones are indeed good, like my TX-2000 which has lasted me a few years.

Im still thinking about it though grr
