This looks like a homebuilt pad idea. There is a sticky thread for homebuilt pads in the Bemani Controllers board which you can use to share your plans and ask questions.

As it is, your plan definitely needs some details - you're not going to get very far without knowing your dimensions or materials!

You can get some great pad designs, or at least some inspiration, from links in the thread I mentioned. A DDRhomepad or RipTide design (my recommendation) offer the best arcade feel. 1x1" tubing is authentic, but you may also want to consider using wood for its vastly-reduced price.

The Homebuilt Pad FAQ can help if you have any problems or questions with the electrical components

The overall dimensions for a pad and other parts of the DDR machine can be found in the first post of this thread.

My advise would be to take some drafting/CADD courses. You'll learn a lot about notation and you'll learn a lot of about your own designs; I certainly did. Taking drafting courses really helped add a professional touch to my designs that's really helped me sell the concepts. (now I just need to sell the products lol)

Anyway, you're starting the same way I did about 2 and a half years ago, so keep it up and post in the Homebrew thread as linked above. Good luck.

Expect to pay about $4/foot for aluminum tubing. I cant tell how many feet you have but i bet you're looking at at least $200 in tubing alone.

The official pads use 9 11" squares of tubes, meaning a total of about 25', or close to $100. Compare that to two 2"x4"x8' for $3-$5. Wood is easier to cut, easier to replace, and when the pad is assembled and closed off no one can see the difference.

i actually thought about using 1"x1" square tubing, but saw the cost (course, that was steel, and not aluminum since i cant weld that without the gas)

the only plus i can really think of is that it's more reliable, and stronger.
i think that if you had the money to go ahead and try it, otherwise just stick to wood.

i might end up building one in a year or so just to say i have, and to see how it turns out (..also to weld again)

Just use oak or maple if you want it stronger. Break an inch of solid rock maple while it's sitting flat on the ground and you might need the steel or aluminum tubing, but you'd shatter a 3/8" lexan panel long before you'd crack an inch of maple or oak. It's not worth nearly $50 per panel to add that unneeded strength. 1/8" of steel would be able to stand up to nearly anything you could stomp its way; you certainly don't need an inch of the stuff.

The beatgear dude just used that bumpy roofing stuff.
