I was wondering if anyone could tell me a fix for my foam pad that would increase its life little while longer. Its from the gamestop store and its has many rips in the inside. the foam also became flatten in the right and life arrow sections. Any ideas? thanx in advance. E1.gif

First, you'll want to tape up the rips. Packaging tape (large clear kind) should work well for this.

Probably the best fix-up would be to use the good old-fashioned wood modification. This is mostly used for plastic pads but can also be used for foam-insert pads (which I assume is what you have).

Now, the hard wood modification basically means attaching a piece of plywood to your pad permanently. You'll need a 3'x3' piece of plywood which you can cut down to the size of your pad (usually 33" by 36" or so for foam pads).

Plastic pads can be attached directly, but foam pads will also work - they're basically plastic pads with a pouch on the bottom. Use scissors to remove the zipper and bottom section, cutting just below the seam on the top half. Tape the edges of the pad to the plywood, then get a staple gun and tack it down (be careful to avoid the sensors).

If you don't want to do anything that serious or wreck your pad, you can purchase replacement foam inserts for about $20 online. But for that price, you might as well buy another pad.

I taped the rips, but as for the plywood, does it matter how thick it is because we have some left over after fixing our garage window from a break-in, its a little thicker than two thin pieces put together.

Pretty much any thickness works, but it's best to get at least 1/2" so that it doesn't crack or warp. Anything between 12" and 3/4" will be great.

There's a great tutorial for the procedure here: http://www.angelfire.com/pro2/softpadmod/
It also tells you how you can use vinyl runners to raise the arrows for a better tactile feel (feel where the arrows are).

Good luck! E1.gif

Awesome! If it's possible, I'd love to see some pics of your new pad.

And passing FELM on expert? You must've been pretty darn good before you even fixed your pad shocked.gif
