|

I'm gonna be moving to an apartment in Korea this summer, and I want to purchase a metal pad for use with stepmania (Korea has like no DDR, just PIU). I know that my neighbors below may be pissed, so how can I prevent the pad from making noise or vibration?
Also, I was thinking of getting a Blueshark with bar, but is that good for apartments? _________________

hi. So i would say that socks help alot (you probably already knew that). Otherwise, the second question depends on if u are on the first floor or not i believe. I mean, the thing weighs 85 pounds. Might be hard to hull it upstairs. _________________

I've been in a similar situation and tried many things. I found out one important thing... there is nothing you can do to help you play in your apartment. It will be loud, and it will cause a lot of vibration. The best thing you can do is find a different place to play. If you can't find anyone on ground level who is willing to play DDR with you, you're best of finding an arcade. |

Play in your bedroom during the day (when your neighbors won't be in theirs) and in your living room at night (when the neighbors are in their bedroom). Or find an apartment with sturdy floors. (Concrete slabs instead of wood... I would expect most high-rises to have this, but i'm not really familiar with korean construction practices.) _________________

Playing DDR in any apartment not on the ground floor is generally going to be a poor idea.
You may really want to consider getting into Pump. Seriously. I lived without Pump in Japan for a year (and am about to do so for two years)...
Also, will MyMyBox (or other metal pad making companies) ship to Korea? Because if they don't, you're going to have to pay an arse-load just to send it over there. Sending it back to the states will be absolutely murder price-wise. |

Actually, the thing is that I might buy one and then move. i believe Korean apartments are made from concrete. Also, there's supposed to be a large terrace/veranda, so maybe I could put the pad there since it's not above anyone. I may start Pump, but I wanna keep playing DDR. What are your ideas about the terrace/veranda? _________________

Getting to know the neighbors below you would help a lot. Simply informing them of what you're doing and that if things "get too loud," they can kindly let you know. A little communication can go a long way.
It's much better than assuming everything's fine and then getting a knock on the door from the landlord or angry neighbors. |

As a person who lives in a downstairs apartment, I can tell you that dance games are really a bad idea if you want to be considerate of your neighbors. When my neighbors play ddr, I can hear each footstep in any room of my apartment. Also, the wood beams creak, and since the ceiling is being pounded, the air itself can be felt compressing around your head. It's really not a nice feeling when people play ddr right above your head. |
