I'm starting ITG for misc. reasons, bought a soft pad even though I knew it would be bad... it's really starting to cause problems though. I'm getting into 4 and 5 songs, and the pad just can't keep up.
It seems like the major competition atm is Cobalt Flux vs MyMyBox vs Afterburner. I'm really leaning towards the Cobalt Flux, because this is $300 after all... I want it to last forever.
I don't plan on playing PIU, but since the CF supports it that's a nice plus.
I'm playing on carpet, I've heard this is a problem for metal pads. The carpet isn't that soft (it's a good 10+ years old), in fact it's pretty hard. Would it still cause cracking?
I also need some suggestions on how to handle 1/8th and 1/16th steps. I'm just starting to run into them and bombs, bombs I can deal with but I have a hard time getting 1/8th steps. I'm thinking this is partly because of the pad not being able to register fast enough, not sure though. |

With newer cobalt fluxes you have to purchase an additional control box to allow the center panel to function. I'd also recommend staying clear of the after burner.

People play custom 15 block songs with soft pads. I was able to play 10 footers before my two Konami soft pads went to garbage. Save your money until you can play on expert. _________________

I read about that too, meh.

I'm not the kind of person who quits because they're lazy/don't think they can do it. Waiting till I can do expert songs on a soft pad, to buy a hard pad just seems... ridiculous imo. |

It seems not anymore.
I've started getting good and can pass 5 step songs, getting much better at hitting 1/8th steps.... buuuuut my pad is ghosting really bad (that's the proper term right?).
I have to hold my foot off the pad for waaay longer than I should for it to register me as off the pad. At first I figured it was really just me still being on the pad, but it's not. When I went back to the main screen of ITG my right arrow was being held down, which means the pad really is going to poopy.
So, Cobalt Flux still the best? I've got enough money to waste on one, just don't want to get something that's crap
Edit: Gave the softpad yet another shot, it's impossible to play on. The steps are sticking for a good couple tenths of a second, |

If you get a metal pad, keep in mind you will have to play in shoes. I went down a foot/block level when I started playing with shoes. _________________

I'm enjoying my Afterburner so far, but there's nothing to say it won't run into the usual problems in the future. I bought it barely used for only $130 though. I don't know if I'd pay full price for a new one with their not so stellar track record.
Just my two cents.
I'm not a fan of Cobalt Fluxes, because I like regular arcade style recessed panels, not something I have to add stuff to to make it arcade style. And at your current 5 block skill level, I don't know if it's worth spending the money at the moment. But that's just my opinion. I went through like, three softpads before I finally moved up to a hard foam pad, and then just last week got a metal pad. _________________
