Here is a cool little story. Last year me and 2 buddies of mine would always go play ITG at MOSI here in Tampa, FL. One of my buddies is 200lbs overweight but still played ITG like a champ! His mom was so willing to buy him metal DDR pads so he could get in control of his weight, but never seemed to work. The kid went though 2(two) TX1000 Pads and 2(two) TX 2000 Pads. After realizing those pads were not good enough he purchased a Redoctane Afterburner. After messing this pad up his mother broke down and bought him an Cobalt Flux Pro Platform. Keep in mind that all this happened in a matter of 2/3 months.

Three weeks ago I went over to his house to see what was going on. After high school we all tended to spread apart some how. As i walked in his room there was the Cobalt Flux half buried under his bed and the Afterburner right along with it. The CF was apparently unrepairable due to is dog as he chewed the cords to the control box right off. And the afterburner's arrows were not working at all as the control box was so messed up at the same time. Considering this friend now is a GH freak, he didn't mind me taking his AB and his CF. After I took the poor pads back to my house, i layed them down on my living room floor to examine them. The CB needed ALL NEW WIRING + A CONTROL BOX. The Afterburner also needed to be rewired and new plates a screws for the pad. So I call up my other buddy to see if he wanted to dedicate 5 to 6 days repairing these pads and start playing again considering we all pretty much stopped playing after the RoXor and Konami feud.

5 grueling days and maybe a good 10 hours of sleep within those 5 days we manage to completely fix the Cobalt Flux and The Afterburner. Keep in mind that we have no clue WTF we were really doing considering him and I have never owned a metal pad nor pro platform in our lives. Since we needed a new control box for the CB, we saw how people on this forum used a 5 dollar controller from gamestop to build their own. So this is exactly what we did. After so many trial and error attempts to find a ground and which copper spots on the board did what, we finally did it. After completely soddering all the wires to the gamestop controller we placed the board in a Yugioh tin an electrical tapped it shut never to be open again. We completely had do disasemble the CB and run new wires throughout the pad. We had to do the same thing with the Afterburner.

What was interesting was that we wanted to fix them so bad, it wasn't really an option for failure. Even on some nights when it was 4:30am trying to figure out the lines on a ps2 mother board controller meant watching Ninja Warrior on G4. We still never gave up.We are even now in the process of adding a bar to the CF considering we have just finished adding a VERY successful bar to the Afterburner. Maybe we can call it an Afterburner mod? E1.gif

What really sparked me was when we were fixing the CobaltFlux, and after it was all apart. Me and my buddy looked at each other and we both thought the same exact thing. These pads are nothing more than a playstation 2 controller, some wires at radio shak, maybe some plexi glass and some wood and glue. Especially the Afterburner. It seemed really insane that these companies sell these pads for 200-400 dollars a piece when you can build them yourself for less than half the costs!!! Yeah it will take some work and dedication, but in the long run it seems well worth it. Especially building your own pad and making it your very own. Here are some pics of the Afterburner with the bar after it was done that night. I will have the CobaltFlux pictures as soon as we get the bar on it and I will surely take pictures of the Yugioh control box lol! Also if anyone has questions about pretty much any pad, me and my buddy can probobaly help considering we went through every scenerio with these pads so feel free to ask questions because we do have answers.

Anyways, thanks for taking your time to read this story. Now me and my buddy are proud owners of a Redoctane Afterburner and a CobaltFlux. riiight.gif

Could you tell me how you built the Afterburner bar?

Or at least the measurements you used would be very helpful for me.

Thanks!!
