Same topic as in ITG Freak. Me and a team of awesome step artists have started stepping Expert ITG-style charts for DDR, better than any "DDR Expert" pack that has been released, and I'll let you be the judge of that. I'm so confident in this pack that I'm hoping this pack is the be-all end-all for all to complete the DDR charts, and is the pack people choose to throw on there machines, separately, or as 'real' Expert steps for DDR charts.
This project will be a series of compilation packs, featuring some very skilled stepchart writers, with their input and permission for use of their files of course. I have complete confidence in each and every chart that I put in this project, and so do the stepwriters.
Current List of Contributing Step Artists

-King of Light

The Earth Light (11) [King of Light]
The Least 100sec (12) [Hatena Zubon]
The Shining Polaris (10) [King of Light]
Trip Machine (10) [Rahzel]
So a good balance of charts. Some do have ITG elements (mines, hands rolls) so be wary. Based on the sucess of these we will definitely release future packs. These are .ogg converted and r21 ready (but also included the original bg/bn for those who want to add these to their machine or stepmania). This is also the first pack I have released files I have made publically, outside of my small ITG community, so much feedback would be appreciated. EVEN IF you've gotten the original files by Crono and KoL, the other files have not been released publically either, and ALL files have been re-sync'd by me and are sync'd very accurately to the machine I play on (Darklink's). And all files are just the charts mentioned above, not the original DDR charts so if you want those you're looking in the wrong place.

FAXX: More fun than the normal Heavy chart, but I will always play this on x2. 200 BPM for this song is far too slow. Oni though..it's like FELMO but different.
CSFIL Speed Mix: Repetative and just..annoying kinda..
A: Heavy steps trash, Oni steps..lol.
Butterfly: Smile.dk meets ITG?
Freckles: Fun.
Maximizer: A little dissapointing..I was sorta expecting somethin like MAX 300 SMMM0.
Trip Machine: What happened? Where's the twistyness and fun? It's all streams and jumps, ick.
The least 100secs: Fun.
Sync: The beginning was garbage, the rest was fun.
Paranoia: It's decent.
Golden Sky: Smile.dk revisits ITG? _________________

Downloaded. I have to get some sleep, so I'll check them out tomorrow.
EDIT: Impressions as follows.
A (Renaissance)
-I like how the Heavy chart brings 16ths into the fast part, though the slow part felt a little absent after their 16ths. I was thinking you could go for more technical stepping in the slow part. You didn't change the beginning at all for the Challenge stepchart... the rest of it is too hard for me to accurately rate.
Ba Kkwo
-Weird song, but the steps work. It started sounding like Queen of Love and I got a bit distracted =P
Boys (Euro mix)
-It's very hard to give this one an unbiased rate, because I've been making a neo-DDR stepchart for it too and I really like my chart. (I only have the rhythms and haven't set the directions, so it's kind of hard to show it; it has a lot more air/16ths and fewer breaks though). I do like your chart's beginning, the way it has you twist your hips around.
Butterfly
-Interesting chart. While I am not used to all the mines and hands (hope I haven't just eaten when I bend down to hit those), I really like how you left the spins in. I guess it's sort of like While The Rekkid Spinz.
CSFIL-SM
-The 16th stream started out cool, but after awhile it started seeming unneccesary (like it didn't fit in).
Caution
-An entertaining chart. I'm not used to hitting hands or triples, but the spins are a nice touch and the steps flow well.
Dream A Dream
-Perfect. The jacks do a great job of emphasizing the beat, and they're not fast to the point of annoying. The steps flow nicely too, with lots of fluid movement.
Faxx
-Oh the humanity... I don't like rapid-fire jump-steps. The Heavy's beginning (piano run) part was interesting with the 16th triples.
Freckles
-Another good chart. I don't see the point to the phantom arrows though, that's just mean =P
Genom Screams
-Looks like somebody likes the Extreme doubles chart! It's a very technical 10; I like it. It reminds me of Ultramix 10s like G2/Giudecca. Why did you change the sample start, though?
Golden Sky
-Very twisty. Fun crossovers, though that handplant followed by the mines is mean. I'd be struggling to get up in time, to everyone's amusement =P
Strictly Business
-Oooh, technical! The quad was one of those "gah!" moments, but I like the green-note gallops (reminds me of Go 60 Go) and some of the other stuff that I forgot. The rhythms are varied enough that I would need to practice them, and the song's interesting enough that I would want to practice them.
Trip Machine
-I usually don't like mines (haven't played enough ITG to get used to them, really), but I think they fit in very well to the song's theme of tripping you up. That being said, the 16th stream seems a bit out of place to me; the flow's fine, but it just feels like something thrown in to increase the difficulty.
More later... I need sleep again =P _________________

Thanks a lot for your feedback guys! I'll try to respond and hopefully we'll bring out better future packs. All the charts are not by me, it was a collaboration so that is probably why the styles are so different.

Yeah, his idea for the BPMSs was that 100-200-400 makes it really hard to pick a good speed mod and stick with it, because the 100 parts end up being too slow unless you really know the song's rhythms by heart. For an ITG player 200 lets you pick a good 2,2.5, or 3x and be fine.
(T-GOMP)Gackt wrote: | CSFIL Speed Mix: Repetative and just..annoying kinda.. |
TimeSpaceMage wrote: | CSFIL-SM "didn't fit in" |
Yeah, it's a different taste than the Heavy DDR, which I like a lot, for sure. His idea probably came from making a chart of this difficulty level that you could not really imagine being there for this song, and trying to make it fit. The repetitiveness and parts "not fitting in" are to maintain a consistent difficulty for the chart, I guess.
(T-GOMP)Gackt wrote: | A: Heavy steps trash, Oni steps..lol. |
TimeSpaceMage wrote: | A (Renaissance) "didn't change the beginning" |
This chart was his way of more like an "A - Revisited" ie, putting the 9-footer style 16ths in the Heavy and following the synth in the Expert. That's why perhaps the beginning is unchanged, or changed very little (plus this isn't AA or AAA, the beginning of A is rather dry for creative stepping).
(T-GOMP)Gackt wrote: | Butterfly: Smile.dk meets ITG?
Golden Sky: Smile.dk revisits ITG? |
TimeSpaceMage wrote: | Butterfly, Golden Sky |
Yeah, that was my intent with these two charts. I put some cool step-rhetoric in there (like the freezes in Golden Sky) and the Butterfly hands chart was like a curve ball, but maintaining a sort of "tribute" to the original chart. The hand in Golden sky follows the guy's voice in the background and you kinda have to know it's there (tripped me up a couple times too originally, and I wrote it haha) but it works.
TimeSpaceMage wrote: | Freckles "phantom arrows" |
By phantom arrows you mean rolls? They don't need to be done that fast, and I thought they didn't fit either at first, but then King of Light explained to me that they follow a synth sound in the background during that part.
(T-GOMP)Gackt wrote: | Maximizer: A little dissapointing..I was sorta expecting somethin like MAX 300 SMMM0. |
From the music alone it's pretty clear that a really difficult challenge chart could be made for this. But this was just meant to be a fun, twisty but not-too-hard chart.
TimeSpaceMage wrote: | Caution |
If you've ever played pump, those couple hands, etc are loosely lifted from where they appear in the pump chart. This was meant to be a dance-y chart, and sort of a nod to pump as well since this is the most freestyle-d song in Pump history (sort of the Pump "Dynamite Rave" or something)
(T-GOMP)Gackt wrote: | Trip Machine: What happened? Where's the twistyness and fun? It's all streams and jumps, ick. |
TimeSpaceMage wrote: | Trip Machine |
I like the way Rahzel wrote the beginning, and you know what? I argued with him about the same thing...the ending streams. I originally thought they should be short sets of five following the melody in the background, like "Know Your Enemy" style. But he wanted to end on sort of a "climax" (no pun intended) that fit with the song, and the runs do indeed follow the background synth. So yes, they are there for difficulty, but so are the unnecessary stops in Chaos =P The chart's fun after you know what to expect,
(T-GOMP)Gackt wrote: | Sync: The beginning was garbage, the rest was fun. |
Don't know how the beginning was 'garbage' since it follows the synth in the background very closely, but I do admit that starting off with that long of a run (like Delirium length maybe?) is painful...
(T-GOMP)Gackt wrote: | Paranoia: It's decent. |
Sadface...I actually thought this was a rather good attempt on my part. The sets of 5 notes follow the background rhythm, LOTS of step rhetoric references (like mines on sirens), the rolls to end each phrase, the crossovers in the middle part, fun to play...
TimeSpaceMage wrote: | Boys (Euro mix) |
Yep. I thought Crono's steps for this chart were pretty much perfect. But thanks for the review, it is indeed hard to review a chart for a song you were working on (like when I reviewed ModzorRhye's Golden Sky). Good luck with your chart!
TimeSpaceMage wrote: | Genom Screams |
I DO like that chart! Haha. The sample thing might have been a mistake of me accidentally hitting the bracket keys while working on the chart. Not that it really matters much =P
TimeSpaceMage wrote: | Strictly Business |
Major props to Rahzel, I love this chart too. Everything just fits =P
Thank you guys for feedback, feel free to write more reviews! (Next pack is being worked on, and it will ROCK XD) _________________

Oh ok. Try to find 3.95, or even 4.0. 4.0 is what I use to write and edit (I like the editor setup) and it's not nearly as bad as people make it out to be. _________________

i disagree with this. while you can't really get the beginning to be very hard, you can still get very creative with it. i've found lots of different and somewhat unique steps that have turned out well, a few of which are edits i've made myself. _________________

Maybe. You could be really gimmicky with it too probably. I think especially for making a 13-sort of chart, it's fine to build up with something really easy at the beginning and then pull out the hard stuff at the speed-up. *shrug* Even the famed 'Ivkas' A does the same thing. _________________

1. Thank you for making edits to quality ddr songs
2. Thank you for making edits that are playable on your feet! (so many edits are made solely for fingers)
3. HOT LIMIT!!! man, i've wanted a good edit of this for years.
4. Boys was very good as were paranoia, CSFIL, Trip machine. Fun different steps to some classics.
5. The least 100 secs. It's actually on beat! This in itself is a huge improvement but there are some really fun steps here as well.
6. Golden sky and graduation gave fresh breath to some really boring step charts, nice.
7. Genom is similar to this crazy cool edit i played at one of the Spring Madnesses in KC (05?) Although i still give the old one i played the upper hand you did a good job of follwoing the music on this one.
8. Strictly business! What a great choice, one of the few songs that didn't make it on 4th mix plus. Creative steps too.
9. All the step artists should work for konami, b/c the stuff you guys made here is far on par or better than Supernova.
THANK YOU!! |

Bumped because I finally got around to actually playing these charts on SM, and I must say, they're awesome. I'll definitely be playing some of these on R21 sometime. I'll probably be making some more videos of these too in the near future:
