Someone want to order a controller and get us all some feedback?
I want to see if these are as awesome as they look, but I don't have the money.

My friend and colleague Wertle owns a Pop'n DA. I've played on it and I find it pretty excellent. I'm going to get ahold of him and ask him for some details on how he feels about it.

And you know this cause you worked for Konami in Japan at the time, right? This is the first I've heard of an actual home version of bmIII.

DT
No, I know this because my friend's a bemani know-it-all, and I asked him a week ago.
Actually, I don't even know if it made it TO beta testing, but they designed the controllers to support it, so that would suggest that they at least had a homeversion in the works, even if they never really took it beyond the drawing board.
I would play it. =D

@ Discoman:
Yeah, they LOOK great, but then again, the CF looks awesome too, until you try to play on one for the first time and cut your shoe in half on one of the screws, so you can't really judge a book by it's cover. I think I might wind up getting a IIDX doubles DA this summer, depending on how things look for me as far as budget goes.

Forgive my skepticism, but like I said this is the first I've ever heard of an actual home version of beatmania III... I know that's why the plug was included on the controller, but I wasn't aware that they actually had something to test it with. (Unless like you said they never got that far.)

On a related note I still don't get how the plug managed to make its way onto the US controller, unless they just wanted to keep the design as close to its original Japanese version as possible. Or they thought they'd include a footpedal mode on beatmania US2. Although if this year's Konami Gamer's Day goes by without any announcement of a new beatmania US, I'm gonna go ahead and blow out the candle I've been holding in the hopes a sequel would materialize.

I love how the owner's manual acts like it's super-classified data that they don't want anyone to know.

It says something along the lines of "Do not remove the cover for this port, it's purpose may be discussed in the future, but for now, we're not telling you!"

I read that and immediately removed the cover and looked at what kind of port it was. xD

How long ago did they release BMUS?
Not to long ago, right?
A year or two?
It seems to get a good enough feedback here, it's just not all that well-known.
I'm the only person at my school who has a copy, unless you include my friend who's brother has a copy of BMUS, Happy Sky, and Distorted. drool.gif
I think he might have other Japanese versions too, but I don't know which.
Oh, whoops, tangent. xD

This looks like the best place to put my question so what the heck is a "modded softpad"? I've heard people talking about it but I've never asked what it is. If anyone can tell me thanks.

Snap, I just relized this thread. Anyways, I heard you can build your own Pop'n Music controller. How much would it cost, what would I need, & what skills are required to build it?

I have an Ignition 3.0 pad and I was wondering if there was any way to use the XBOX/USB switcher cord to use an XBOX controller on the PC. My gamepad just broke and I really don't feel like buying another one.

Actually never mind, I solved the problem by going into Device Manager and manually installing the XBCD drivers.

Note- I only have experience constructing regular arcade style fighting game controllers. I am sure there is somebody here who has actually built their own.

Buttons: ~$90.00
Wood: cost will vary with the type of wood. I would say go with some kind of plywood like birch. ~$15.00
old psx controller: ~$5.00
female crimp connectors: ~$4.00
spade terminals: ~$4.00
low wattage soldering iron: $10.00 at radio shack
ROSIN CORE solder: I don't know how much this is, seeing as we already had some around the house. Can't be too expensive.
22 gauge insulated stranded wire: $5.00 at radio shack
barrier strips: ~$5.00

total cost: ~140 clams. You may very well already have some of this stuff which would reduce the cost. In the end the buttons will cost the majority of your cash.

As far as necessary skills are concerned, its not that bad. If you have never soldered before you will want to have somebody expereinced in soldering show you the ropes. This will be the most difficult part skill-wise. Definately practice soldering on maybe an old broken controller or some old chip out of something before you go to actually solder the one you are going to use. Basic carpentry is needed to make the box. Its just a freaking box. Anyone can make it. If you can use a power drill you can make the box.

Worth it? It looks like it. Once I get enough cash I am going to make my own Pop'n ASC.

Quite frankly, I would advise against ordering from desktoparcade. I haven't even got my controller yet, but I can already tell you not to order from here. Mind you I have heard great things about his controllers since he changed his turntable design so it doesn't die on you. However I have to say, Steve's business ethics are not the best. I ordered my IIDASC from him. He tells me it should be a few weeks before it is finished. No problem. Five weeks pass. I email him. He says the box and plexiglass are assembled. Okay. Another month passes. My name is now on a list of controllers that are said to be going out that week. Mine is not out by that week. I email him again. He tells me if by some stretch it is not out by that week then he will do everything he can to get it out by the next week. Two more weeks pass and it has not gone out. I also asked him for photos about a week ago which he said he would pass on to me. Haven't got any yet. When i make controllers for people I come right out and tell them if it will be months or so before their controller will be finished and ask them if they still wish to order one. My story isnt the only one like this either. Some people have waited years literally for their controller. Never never NEVER expect to get your controller when he says it will arrive. Tack a few months at least onto the eta of your controller.

tl;dr: Decent controllers, terrible business ethics and wait time. If you have the money, get a Dj Dao. If you have the time and know-how build your own.

EDIT: Just got my controller and I have to admit it is hella tight. If you go in knowing that the wait is going to be way longer than projected then it is definately worth it.

Well, I thought of a good substitute for Guitar Freaks, its simple:

Buy a GH xbox 360 controller and hook it up to your PC, find some simfiles on Guitar Freaks (and a simulator) and play until your heart's content.

One slight annoyance: make sure you either have a nice huge monitor so you can tilt the censor to the screen or go vertically from left to right to make sure the sencor is in FRONT of the screen for wailing.

Other then that, the controller works pretty good, I just need to get a little better with "fretting".

Good luck and I hope this helps people, NO I WILL NOT PROVIDE THE LINKS, JUST SEARCH FOR THE "CONTROLLER FIX" FOR THE DRIVERS.

that is all.

See yaz bye.

Can anyone tell me how much a IIDX controller is worth nowadays?

I've quit music games for quite awhile now need to get rid of it.

It's import, modded (I forgot the term but with cardboard for springback thing), and owned before me. It's a little dusty.

For a IIDX controller, you are looking at 80 bucks for an imported one.

and the term is "modded <console>".

go to http://www.play-asia.com thats where I got my controller from.

Are you sure?! I actually bought it here ages ago when I was an active member for $60? Just because it's modded it's worth that much?! I don't have the arcade style on if that's what you were thinking.

Oop! I guess I assumed. My bad. E10.gif

Since you can get the (pretty decent) ones in the BMUS bundle for $20-$40, I'd figure somewhere in that range. E10.gif
