Alright, Monolith is probably my most favorite itg song musically. I rarely get to play itg2, so I've played this song a total of 3 times. First time I failed it. 2nd and 3rd I passed it. Let's just say that it is a very tiring 11. But the thing that dissapoints me (I don't think I spelled "dissapoints" correctly") is its stepchart. I mean the expert stepchart isn't REALLY stupid or anything, but for such an amazing song I think that they could have done better. I do like it somewhat cause it's challenging and it has a couple of fun hands in it, but in all honesty, it's a rather bland stepchart. I was really expecting more. Well mabey, I need to play it a few more times and the stepchart will grow on me. But I'm sure glad itg2 ps2 has edit mode... I mean WILL have
What do you guys think about monolith, musically and its stepchart? _________________

It's pretty good musically, and the expert steps are actually pretty fun I think. No runs = plus for me. I think it's probably the hardest song in the game that I would consider truly "fun". anything harder, such as Hardcore Symphony or Pandemonium Hard, I don't really enjoy playing too much. Maybe !, but it's most likely an 11 now, and I'd say its a tad easier anyway, or about on par. Difficulty wise though people overrate it big time, it's nowhere close to being the hardest 11 in my opinion. Hard steps are fun from what I remember, only played them once though. That's my take on Monolith. _________________

Well, it may not have the most creative melody, but that beat is so driving it just gets you going, and in a music game that is probably the biggest factor.
I mean seriously, if it makes you want to dance, it succeeded.
Stepwise for Hard were fun. Basically a 2-minute HVAM (Yes, I brought that up again), nothing inordintely special, but pretty fun.
Expert steps.......it's not that they're BAD, it's just.....what the hell do the 16ths follow? Maybe they do follow something and I wasn't paying attention to the music (Again, I don't play ITG2 much) but it doesn't seem like most of the 16ths are in the song. In other words, I think the song, as fun as it is, musically only merits a 10 probably.
THat's my take _________________

Ah, monolith, one of my favorite ITG songs...the steps own, the song is great too...what more is there to say? Oh yeah...
Just so you know, Monolith is practically a remix of Healing Vision (Angelic Mix) from DDR...listen to the two, and look at their BPM, it's obvious that HVAM inspired affinity the day he/she/they made that song...Nontheless, it's a GREAT song. |

the rhythmic background synth is basically doing a constnat repeating 16th cluster. this is best heard during the "intro" (immediately as it speeds up) before the main melody comes in. so anytime theres a cluster of steps, it can be matched up to the background. anyhow, like I was saying somewhere else, Kyle's expert charts can be a nice change of pace from Foy's sometimes, like in this case, because sometimes its nice to not necessarily follow something in the song religiously but rather make steps that are fun to play. _________________

Yeah, the main melody is the thing that really amazes me. It just takes my breathe away ( ok, not that far, I just like being dramatic). And I'm just talking about the expert steps... _________________

I like how Monolith is in a few of the courses, playing it on Driven Intense is a blast! (and quite a workout) _________________

Monolith is my lowest scoring expert 11, and I don't find the steps fun at all. _________________

Of course when you compare Monolith to the rest of ITG's songs it sounds good
but then there's songs that are actually really cool to listen to outside of playing the game like D-Code. I tried playing it in my car while driving one day and I realized how much it sucks to listen to if you're not actually playing it. In-game it's great, though.
The expert steps are pretty boring imo. 16th notes in random spots spread out instead of runs are tiring and unfun. I'd rather play something like Summer if I wanted something fast. _________________

now try comparing those songs to REAL 12's like Energizer and Euphoria....Still think they should be a 12? _________________

Somebody sees my point of view. Ya-uh!
Seriously though, I think the charts are fine as they fit the song if you are willing to see it my way. I will be overplaying this song when the home version is released. _________________

I HATE the monolith step chart. I'm not really an 11 level player, quite frankly the only 11's I can really do (granted I've only tried these and monlith) are Robotix and Know your Enemy.
But regardless, the "hard" step chart is rediculously difficult (for me) and the expert chart is impossible. I may simply not understand the beat though.
I'm overtired, excuse my disjointed sentences. |

Know your Enemy is a 10.
Robotix should be a 10.
