From experience, I have played on an arcade pad on a rainy day and found that moisture on the bottom of my shoes allowed my feet to "stick" to the arrows, meaning that I did not tend to miss steps due to slippage, especially when not bar raping. I bet that if you take a wet cloth and moisturize your shoes, then you will achieve higher scores on any arcade pad, including DDR and ITG2 pads. Hope this helps some of you.

Well that's assuming you are having slippage problems. I find the opposite to be true. I play better when I don't stick to the pad...

Then whoever goes next gets to slap their hands down onto wet, sticky panels. Thanks a lot.

Then the next person in line can wipe the pads with a dry cloth.

Most people don't carry dry cloths and I'm pretty sure that arcades don't feel like catering to people who play with wet shoes.

Plus the tiny fact that when you do tht MUD gets on the pads and cause pad misses more often. Thanks for adding to the dirty pad problems!

Not if your shoes are clean on a sunny day and you just use a wet paper towel from the restroom.

The point is, you're presenting a number of problems for other people just so you alone can play better. I hope you see the selfishness in that.

If your shoes are even more than slightly wet I can only forsee horrible traction and potential for injury.

Before each round, I tip some water from my water bottle into my hand, then wipe it on the bottom of each shoe. The water dries quickly from the fricton and makes my shoes grip much better. And the pads are completely dry by the end of the 1st song so the next person isn't going to slip or anything.

I think there is some truth in what you say, but I go a bit farther. I wet the bottom of my shoes before I play, but I also dry them off beforehand. It's nothing more than cleaning off any dirt, dust, and any other debris my shoes might have picked up. This improves my shoes' friction quite a bit. On the flip side, it might also help to play on clean pads. I've played on dirty pads a few times, and it's considerably more slipperly than a good, clean pad.

HA! i always thought i was weird for practising this method. We have 2 DDR machines, one has REALLY slippery pads, all the time. it causes slips on crossovers, and is damn near a suicide misson on doubles.

I do the drop of water (seriously, a drop will do it) onto the sole of the shoe. As far as leaving the pad messy for following players, i have never had that problem. If you only use a drop or two of water, by songs end, the pads are back to original shape. I could play my second song W/O the water, and slip again.

Overall, especially for me, as I just cannot bar rape, I find it to REally increase the scores for me.

Only on a machine with slippery panels, though.

That's disgusting.

A lot of the times at tournaments someone will usually bring some type of small rag and a bottle of Windex to use on the pads. That works the best. biggrin.gif

I prefer the my shoes not to be "sticky" at all. I like my shoes and the panels just slightly slippery. Then again, the bar and I are pretty good friends.

I've got to have a clean pad to do anywhere near good, but that's just me. And I only use the bar on 10s and when I'm trying PA doubles songs.
