Hello all, I am that crazy guy who dose all the 9 footers for 5+ hours a day. Latly I have been having this tremendous pain in both my knees. I'm starting to have trouble to walk after i play. I have tried ice every day after work but that didn't seem to help. My dad think i should buy a knee brace for when i play. I'm only 20 and I don't want to feel like an old fart walking around with a brace on my knees, plus I dont think it would have any affect on all that pounding I do on the pads. I don't know if any of you guys have chronic knee pain but im starting to worry how much longer my knees will last until surgery. On some days when the pain is too much i only go 2+ hours a day insted of 5 but i just cant stop playing.....im addicted to ITG (seriously). If you guys wear any knee braces (give brand name please) or have other major pain reliefe please place them here. I'll most likely be going to a doctors to get things checked out but god forbid if i have to stop ITG for good I might cry. Thanks guys |

I've had knee pains since I was about 10 (I'm currently 19). I found DDR/ITG have HELPED my knees and not affected them. Just start playing less and less (kind of like quitting smoking) until you find a time length that actually suits your knees.
For me my knees hurt if I don't play :/. |

Thats funny alot of time before i play my knee kills...and when i finish playing my knee kills but while im playing most of the time i feel really good, and even though im having all this pain, my scores continue to increase....sadly im afraid that might end soon. You guys are right I should take a break, but its really hard to do that when you get paid to play that game.... |

Maybe you should try doing some stretches before you play. Namely, try stretching your quads. Your quads are the leg muscles above your knees in the thick thigh area. for instance if you sit down and extend your leg as far as you can, and a bit more, you should feel a stretching muscle on the top of your leg there. that's what you wanna stretch; as that reinforces the knee.
Don't overdo the stretching bit; just a suggestion to do it in moderation and maybe it'll help ya.
Good luck to ya.. |

Maybe it might be runners knee.
DDR/ITG mimicks running to an extent.
During running, the hamstrings tend to work more then the quad which could cause an imbalance in the muscles hold you knee in place (since its those muscles that holds the knee in place).
In that case, orb is on the right track. Stretch out your quads and work on strengthing them.
Of course some good old R&R never hurt anyone. _________________

Well calm down it's not alot of money...I get $7.00 an hour. I work over at the YMCA as a cardio arcade trainer. I have 3 options there basicly....play ITG/DDR/FLOW/ Play retarded raceing games on the game bike or work out with the weights or......sit there and stare at the wall....I have been trying so hard to use the weight lifting machines ( for my arms only...I quit using my legs). but one can only do so much untill I become sore. Its just so hard to see ITG blasting it's music on a huge HDTV flat screen with 4 beutiful wooden $1,300 cateye pads, and to top it off 6 way surrowned sound speakers! Thats like shoving a peice of double chocolate cake in front of a fat person and trying to tell them you "shouldn't eat it"!

yes i have been stretching my quads alot and other parts of my body for about 15 minuetes before i play and 5 min. when im done. The stretching used to help alot and i still do it, Tonight I'm going to a chiropractor to see what he thinks. I know stretching is very important to lubricate the muscles and to rid of lactic acid in the muscles, but other then that it really dosen't prevent you from injury.

yea i was wondering that myself it seems my hamstrings are always soo tight. the quads and the hamstrings are what i mainly focus on when i stretch. the pain used to hurt right above the knee. but now it seems to hurt the most deep down from the sides of my knee when i walk. It's really painful but now i have to take much smaller steps when i walk. It's a shame too because i have only been playing dance games for about 5 months now = / |

I work over at East broad St. in Westfeild (right across from the police station) If you would like to come on over and play just go there and tell them You wanted a tour of the cardio arcade the hours are 3:15-8:30. if they give you trouble ask for Brian, I'm there everyday but some days im only there 2 hours but most likely you will catch me |

Well guys i Just came back from the chiropractor...he adjust my knees and gave me 2 knee braces for when i play...I tried playing badminton and queen of light in them and reaching down really feels weird and hurts alot...i guess i have to break in to them. He said i have to visit once a week, ice and elevate legs after playing, and wear those knee braces when playing, also continue stretching before and after. I don't have to do this if i quit but he says i have to if im going to continue to play this much everyday because if i don't ill be destroying more cartilage (sorry spelling sucks) in my knees and i could be looking at surgery by the time im 25. Other then getting used to the awkwardness of the knee braces im starting to do alittle better. It;s just amazing how weak and vulnerable the human body is to ITG. My knees may hate the game...but it makes my brain happy! |

You know, I'm only 17 but I wear a knee brace all the time when I play. It's just something I've done for ever, with sports and what not. Hopefully you didn't tear something like I did about a year ago. _________________
