How well is ITG using mines? |
There aren't enough mines in Expert charts; ITG should make some more charts like Infection |

Hmm...this could get interesting. One the one hand you have charts like Vertex, Vertex^2, and Infection that have more mines than any front that E-Z company was on, but on the other hand you have minefields like in ROM-eo and Juli8 that aren't hard at all but are surprisingly fun. Some charts could have more mines, some charts have too much, but most have the perfect amount in my opinion. I'm going to go with ITG is using them well.
Of course I don't really care about mines at all positively or negatively _________________

There is no reason for practically every fucking expert chart to have mines in it. They work good in some situations like triple hits with a mine, or to make some freezes tricky, but to derive a chart's difficulty around limiting your ability to ghost step is stupid to me. They should be used to force specific techinques during a song, not to just add them everywhere randomly because they can. _________________

I'm currently rather abysmal at dodging mines, so I cringe at the thought of charts like Infection. I wouldn't want charts with MORE mines, but I also wouldn't want them to be reduced too much overall. _________________

I like the status quo regarding mines. I'm fine and I like them where they have it now.
Yet, I believe that some songs should use more mines (Infection-esque). However, like Toady, I believe that it shouldn't be in every single song.
NorCal players or ITGFreakers, you might have heard of Hoodie's Incognito edit. That uses a lot of mines to the style of Infection (even moreso, I'd say) and that's a pretty fun edit. That's what I mean. Some songs should definitely use more mines, but it shouldn't be a thing that they feel that it is obligatory for them to put in every single song's chart. _________________

I think the mine-usage is fine.
Maybe do a similar poll for hands after this one is done? _________________

I'd have to say that ITG uses them well right now. Songs like infection are fun to play every once in a while, but I would be quite disappointed if every expert chart was like that. |

In my honest opinion,
Almost Every Song from Medium, Hard and Expert should Contain Mines and/or Hands.
Why?
You always could turn them off in the Mod-Menu.
I dislike, that there are so many Charts without Mines and Hands.
You dont Like it - don't play them and turn them off in the Menu.
If that is not possible for further ITG Releases,
i pray for an option to auto fill in Hands and / or Mines.

That sounds fine, but turning them off DQs your score, and I'd rather not have every chart look like VerTex, since the score DQ is out of the question for pretty much everyone. _________________

I like mines, but I honestly do think they're bieng a little overdone. Just tone them down a bit. Hands however, I don't like at all. _________________

I'm all up for mines, even though some people don't quite understand the concept when they create edits.
What Toady said pretty much sums up my feelings as well. _________________

Mines tend to force awkward hops or stepping in the middle. Also, I've looked at harder stepcharts on the ITG home version that I can't pass yet (e.g., Xuxa) and spelling out letters using mines is even dumber. But, the absolute dumbest use of mines has to be Robotix (Hard), all those mines in the middle of the roll and no matter how many there are and how fast they scroll them, the roll only needs to be kept at a constant speed until that unmusical section finally ends and the tempo returns to its normal tempo.
The bottom line is that I don't like them (but then again, I'm not hardcore into ITG anyway), I'll step on a mine anyway if a mine is going to force a missed step, and it's because of gimmicks like mines (and stretch hands such as Anubis) that I don't ever care about what my actual percentage is, as long as I just pass the song whenever I play hard above level 8 or try one of the easier expert level 9's. |

Realize that on Expert you have to hit left and right arrows at approximately the same speed as if there was no speed change (this doesn't work right, so you have to use the early/late section of the grading to know whether to speed up or slow down. The mines are there to sort of help you realize how fast the scroll speed really is. If you're watching the wrong stuff too, the speed of everything will throw you totally off. If you're not in any danger of hitting the mine, why do you care if it's in there or not? I personally like how in at least one part of One False Move, there's a part where you're not doing anything (either no arrows or a hold) and some mines go past, sync'd to the song. It doesn't serve any purpose besides "hay lol" since I'm not in danger of striking them. _________________

Mines are kinda what ITG is about, however, I think they use them in bad ways more often that good. I think there should be a song where there is a note comming up, and there is a mine before it, and you try to hit the note, and the song stops, making you hit the mine. THey have done that the other way around, but not like that, I dont think. over all, there are to many in some, good amounts in others. I dont realy care what they do with them, because unless they do what I said above, they dont ever bother me. Never realy had a problem with them, and they kinda make ITG ITG. |

some gimmicky charts are ok to have, but not all of them should be that way
the worst placed mines in my opinion are at the end of tribal style... there are just two, and theres no way in hell you could hit those unless you were purposely hitting them. i just think they are rediculous and should be removed.
oh and i also dont like how they have mines at the end of freeze arrows at the end of the song, like liquid moon. they are just dumb. (keep in mind: opinion) |

At first I hated them with a passion, but now I tolerate them as long as they're used with moderation. Romeo & Juli8 and Queen Of Light are OK for me, but Lemmings On The Run is just plain ridiculous. And few things in life are as frustrating as getting to the end of Disconnected Mobius with an almost full lifebar, only to get wiped out by the minefield. _________________
