USB Voltage or related?

Sorry if we've already mentioned this, tried to do a search but took a while.

I have a BNS PSX-USB converter. Usually when I play on hard pads (and once in a great while this will happen with soft pads), the converter shorts out. I think this is probably due to voltage issues. Does anyone know the procedure for increasing the voltage allowance for USB?

Also, this one hopefully I can get an answer for. When I tried playing with hard pads on the same setup, when I play with shoes on, the thing shorts out. However, once I hooked up 2 hard pads to the same converter, neither of us wore shoes when playing, and it worked just fine. What's up with this one?

PSX and USB Pads both use 5 Volts, so there shouldn't be a problem.
What do you mean with short out? Shourt out like you have to replug it or your converter is fryed?

The reason your converter shortens out is probably the static electricity generated by playing with shoes on plexiglas. I once had the same problem with my Homepads when I used standard USB Gamepads to play. When playing 9/10-feet-songs, my Gamepad always shortened out after about 30secs.
Then I bought Xbox Controlboxes for the TX series and soldered an USB plug onto them. These controlboxes seem to be protected by static electricity and never shorten out.

I don't know why your converter shortens out since the CB in your hardpad should also have such a protection, but apparently it doesn't. Maybe the Playstation handles the static current itself when connected to it !?!?

Some solutions would be to try another adapter or connect it to a xbox controlbox. Note that PSX-USB Conveters also produce a lot of latency so a Xbox Controlbox would be the best solution.

What I mean by short out is that the power just cuts out for a second, and since I have one of those Up+Start+Select thingies, it ends up going right back to D-pad. When I hooked up an Afterburner and a soft pad, there wasn't enough juice allowed to get a consistent arrow reading from both pads.

I dont have an XBOx CB, maybe one of my buddies has one.

Also, while we're on the topic of the control boxes, I tried the pad in a PS2 with the CB, and it lagged like a *insert term for female dog here*. Any ideas for this one?
