0. Posted: Tue Jul 12, 2005 4:13 pm Post subject: An EXCITING/IRONIC/HILLARIOUS contest IDEA |
|
|
Alright, before you guys lock this thread, vastly flame me, ban me, or any of that... Just hear me out first.
I Came up with this clever contest idea while bouncing on my trampoline, The mods may hate it but it is the WIN A CHANCE TO BE A MOD FOR A DAY CONTEST!!!
You guys probably are already shocked and think this is a dumb idea but it COULD WORK!
HOW TO WIN:
The way to win is to post a hillarious way to lock a thread, answer a skill testing question, and give one reason you think you should be a mod for the day. An example of a lock phrase would be "LOCKED stocked and barreled", "look at me, I'm your favourite cereal, Count LOCKula" or even my favourite "Here's a nursery rhyme, Tick Tock this thread is LOCKED". Then the FINAL part, a reason why YOU wanted to help make the moderators' jobs become easier would be someting like "I feel that the mods are VERY busy people and may not have time to look at EVERY lockable thread, therefore by being added to the moderator work-force for a day, I will be able to find more threads to lock and to keep more peace in the forum".
If you were to win, a mod would have to pm you and inform you that you'd won the contest.
RULES FOR THE WINNERS:
One last thing, there would have to be some RULES AND REGULATIONS for being mod-ized for the day:
1) You CAN NOT dish out warning points without a mod's full premission, If you do, there would be a consequence simmilar to YOU being warned.
2) You CAN NOT ban anyone without a mod's premission, if you ban someone without this and without logical proof the person needs banning, you will be BANNED along with them.
AND WHY WOULD AN IDEA LIKE THIS BE SO GOOD?:
1) It would share the workload around the forum so we could all be one big team which helps people be happy on this site
2) Havent you always wanted to be a moderator, to lock a thread, to be praised for all the hard work you've done? well, I as a trick member have and I remember someone <NO NAME WILL BE MENTIONED but I'm sure you all know who I'm talking about> Who simply couldn't control this sudden desire to use lock phrases beloning to the moderators.
3)I have noted on other forums being an admin and having the ability to lock and move threads causes EXTREME stress relief.
CONCLUSION:
This is NOT THE THREAD TO POST ALL THIS INFORMATION IN. It is merely asking you what you think of my contest idea.
Thanks

I Understand That, And I Didn't mean that a mod would have to follow anybody around, I just meant the winner of the contest would not have FULL "Mod Powers" as you call em' but just the ability to lock annoying threads. Maybe not even for a whole day, That was sort of what my thought was but it was just Hangin' loose. I was looking for people to brainstorm ways to make the connection and possible make my contest work. Maybe just an hour or so. Well I tried. However, I Failed. Oh BTW, That is a great LOCK picture you had.
I just really want to help out with the site
Thanks

Uh, you can be a mod if you build a time machine and go back to the AFD of '04. That was chaos. =P
I used my powers for good, but then got my post changed to "I like gay butt secks." _________________

This idea has came up so much.
A mod for a day? I don't think you can cut down on the winner's powers. Either you get the full power or you don't. (Ecpet the April '04 joke when we couldn't delete threads anymore. )
Also, how can you trust the winner to not screw around? It is hard to trust people these days. The mods got their powers now due to a huge chunk of turst, plus good behavior. That's another factor, is the winner on good behavior skills? How many warning points does s/he have?
Honestly, though. I don't think this idea would work at all.

A suggestion would be that if another moderator or maybe a customized filter noticed that the winner used another feature, screwed around, and generally just locked someone's thread for no reason, They would be automatically BANNED.
A Possible Scenario (sorry about my HORRIBLE spelling):
Say that MR "X", wanted to be a mod, was trustworthy, only got one warning point in his whole time posting inside of this forum for something he really didn't understand but confirmed in the FAQ and still didn't understand, and really wanted to help make the site, fun, and safe for all to visit. How would MR. "X" go about proving his loyalty, trust, and interest in becoming a mod so that one day, he could? |

Mods get chosen on good behavior and I believe are decided by the current DDR mods/admins. _________________

Hmm... ok, how can you demonstrate good behaviour besides not having any warning points?
Is there anything else MR. "X" could do around here to make the mods think "Hey, this guy would be a GREAT moderator, Let's Add Him!!"? |

Ok.
From experience (On my NASCAR site):
1) By not asking to be a mod! Seriouly, don't ask to be one. That just shows that you are just "power" hungry.
2) Sure, they can demostrate good behavior skills on here. A mod, or admin, can nominate that person to be a mod. All of the mods and admins have to vote on that person. If most of them say "Yes" then that person will get a PM from an admin. (By the way, the mods have their own forum on here, which we basic and trick members can't see.)
3) As for your warning point question in the FAQ. If the trick member doesn't understand what's said in the FAQ, then they can PM the mod/admin that gave them the warning point and ask for a cleaer explaination.
4) Also, the mods on here work on the stuff for the site. The headlines. There are "staff" members here too, people that were once mods but they stepped down. They do a lot of behind the sences look around here.
5) There are your contibutor members. They submit stuff into the FAQ.
I think that's about it. _________________

Thank You for your information, insight, and for not getting irratated by another thread about "How can Mr. "X" become a mod?". Just one more thing, before you guys take that one last LOCKOLICIOUS bite of this thread... you may not have understood my previous question, so let me word it differently. Is there any way that one could help out around here and emphysize*(bad spelling) how good his behaviour is or do something nice to help out the wonderful staff here? |

People who make these sort of threads take moderation as a joke.
No, I'm serious. What, you WANT action? OH CRAP, SPAM! MUST RACE TO LOCK BEFORE SERVER OVERLOAD. OH, GEE, MOVING THREADS IS FUN!
Think about what mods do. You think it should be some fun prize? *expletive*
Keeping out stupid people as a prize? Man, you've hit an all new low. |

And the number one thing: Just be on your best behavior. It's as simple as that. _________________

Ok, I skipped about 90% of the thread. It's late and I'd rather be drunk.
That said...you want to REWARD people for being wannabe mods?

Let me revise the idea:
BECOME A MOD FOR LIFE!
HOW TO WIN:
Contribute a lot of stuff, be helpfull, and become well known on the boards. Then wait for the need for a new mod to arise, and if you are lucky, the staff will pick you!
RULES FOR THE WINNERS:
You get FULL mod powers! _________________

The guy wasn't here on April Fools Day 2004. So I'll give him a little slack.
But nevertheless, the idea is utterly stupid. There's nothing more to say. _________________
