Just go with the number difficulties. Freestyle and I think Nightmare are Doubles steps. I've found Freestyle to be exactly the same as Double Play from previous versions.

Although different versions of PIU have different difficulty modes, and it's not easy to figure them out from the names, I think you can approximately translate them into DDR modes (roughly) as follows:

Normal - Single Light
Hard - Single Standard
Crazy - Single Heavy

Freestyle - Double Light/Standard
Nightmare - Double Heavy

Freestyle was called simply "Double" in some versions and I believe Nightmare was called "Crazy Double" at one time. The oldest versions don't have Crazy or Nightmare at all as I understand it. There were also some more obscure modes. See here for more info:

Is it possible to play both ITG and DDR without screwing yourself. Is it the exact same lateout? If it is isn't that some kind of copywrite law. Basically what I'm saying is should I buy ITG to sharpen my skills to a finer point? E19.gif E19.gif E19.gif

Yeah, it possible. ITG just messed up my PA for some reason. >:[ That's why I no longer play it. Unless you're talking about home version. I find home versions of DDR to be equal to ITG cause they pretty much are. E10.gif

I live to see the day where ITG players and DDR players stop what they're doing and start holding hands while frolicking through a grassy meadow... I'm really not gay... I swear... But seriously, they're both fairly equal in gameplay, to say one is "better" than the other is ridonkulous to me... But everyone's entitled to their opinion dot dot dot

The core gameplay is the same of course, but there are still matters to argue on. Song selection, step design, peak difficulty, graphics, "mood", etc. So, people will continue arguing.

Personally, I like both games, too.

Why pick 'n choose, when you can have both? They're both still fun games.
