Hey! Today I was at the arcade, on my way to play DDR, and I notices a different dance game. I ran up to it all excited, and saw that the name was called Techno Motion. I read on it that it plays PIU and DDR. Sure enough, I looked at the pad and saw that it has all 5 pump it up arrows and all 4 DDR arrows. On the sides are buttons ot change if you want to play PIU or DDR, then a third button which enables you to play all 9 buttons. The 9 button game is so much fun! The game was obviously low budget, it coast only 50 cents to play, and it only had abot 20 song selections. Even though I'm hard core DDR, I found this game entertaining. It was also a little more difficult to read the arrows. Has anyone else played this game? What do you think of it? Are there other versons? |

I have seen one of these, but I didn't try it. I regret it a bit now.
It was at the Excalibur in Las Vegas. _________________

There are actually two different versions: the 1st and 2nd Dance Floors.
The 2nd DF had like six new songs, I think (Trash Man, Staring At The Sun were the highlights),and maybe a few new charts. It's the one most commonly found in arcades, from what I've heard.
It was developed by F2, a company who used to be in good with Andamiro(they had a falling-out for some odd reason); that's why a lot of the Extra/PREX-era Pump backgrounds look similar to Technomotion's: F2 designed them.
http://www.f2.co.kr is their website, but they took down the TM section for some odd reason.. which is sad, because it was the only comprehensive tracklisting available. You can still track it down on one of those web archive sites though; but I'm hoping to make a more solid documentation of it eventually..
Oh, and there wasn't a 9-panel mode: it was actually 8. For some reason, it doesn't use the center.. still pretty fun/difficult, though. (And the double charts rule.) _________________

I didn't think TM had doubles. I know it did for 4-panel and 5-panel (meaning 8-panel and 10-panel), but I didn't see any stepcharts or info on their page for TM doubles (16-panel), so I figured they just drew a line and said "Enough is enough!". _________________

No, it unfortunately doesn't.. I meant that the four/five charts for double were great.
Technically, there isn't room for 16 chart doubles.. the guide bar for 8 arrow takes up more than half the screen.
Sheesh, if there had been though,it would've been nasty. Staring At The Sun on eight-arrow alone was insane. _________________

I actually really liked this game. It was really fun. Does anyone know of a PS2 verson or anything? There wouldn't be room for 16 arrows, there was hardly any room for 8! Unless they shrunk it down a lot... and I didn't notice they didn't use the center button for the 8 button mode. I think there should be more machines like Techno Motion. |

Not gonna happen.. I'm surprised F2 are still in business, much less keeping Technomotion alive.
They never made it past the 2nd Dance Floor, and that was made in, what, 2000? It'd be nice, sure, but it's at best extremely unlikely.
There is an active simfile-creation process in effect at bemanistyle.com though.. one of the members is filming the TM stepcharts, and they're currently being made into SM-compatible files.
Probably as close as you'll get to finding a home version of it though.. _________________

.... I don't think you can use 9 panels.... But I'll check next time I do to the arcade. I'm more than likley to try out that game a few more times. It wasn't all that bad. |

Channel Beat's wrong. Technomotion's cabinet only has three buttons on the front: five, four, and eight.
The stepcharts back that fact up, too: none of the eight arrow charts use the center step.
Oh, and next time you play, make sure to at least select Party Party three or four times, being that it's the best song in the game. :)
(Live In Hip-Hop, Emotion, Cyber Lover, and Shadow are also highlights, not to mention the crossovers from DDR 3rd Mix KR[Wa, Bakkwo, Closer] and Pump[Hatred, Another Truth, Starian, Trash Man].) _________________

If anyone has the data from this game (song/step files) please let me know... adding the stuff to Pump it Up will be easy with the stuff F2 left behind on the PIU Extra disc |

So umm do you have a laptop and don't mind asking the arcade to copy the disc? If they let you... sweet, and mind sending me copies of the files if they do let you?
Oh and by a technicality... I believe you can play all 9 panels in a song... I believe the gameplay by standard works like Pump it Up Rebirths Division mode... but the difference is the difficulty isn't changed with the special icons, the play style (4,5, or 8 panels) is changed instead... |

Nah there is no possible way they're going to let me see the disk... what would you do with the disk, anyway? |

I would use the data to add the songs to Pump it Up PREX3 (home version) so I could play them at home. |

That makes no sense... Here let me break it down...
-I have a TM step editor which was left on a PIU Extra disc.. I can print out PNGs of the PIU style steps to copy into a PIU step editor.
-The background videos run in PIU Extra and PIU PREX2 and above thanks to PIU Extra being made by F2 Systems
-There is also a music file player on the Extra disc I belive...
PIU can run it at full speed.... Mame can barely run Outrun on a decent PC... hahaha
The only thing that would not be done is Rush mode.
I would like to also point out that hold steps were originally intended to be introduced in Technomotion, the editor suppourts them... this shows that it was possible that PIU Extra was original going to be Technomotion 3... maybe we ought to beat some info out of F2 or AM... lol
This proves that F2 Systems is responsible (instead of AM) for the creation of hold steps - which they got permission from Konami and AM to make as a PIU/DDR together game (hence both logos and company logos accompanying the F2 logo and TM logo)
So in otherwords what Konami abused for years was originaly F2 (Andamiro is starting abuse hold steps too... what happened to them barely being in the game?!)... an interesting find... since you gave me the idea to dig up the editor again... lol
Also the copyright date on the program is 1998... this would suggest F2 was planning to create some type of music/dance game at the time of release of DDR and PIU...
