|
|
Alright, I'll keep this short and sweet. I am a Marine Reservist currently deployed in Iraq. What sucks about this is that I started AAAing songs in the arcade on extreme before I was activated. Also, bringing in some DDR games and stuff might not work out due to space constraints which sucks. However, I figured that I would break down and try to learn to play Beatmania IIDX. As a result, I'm getting my JP PS2 sent over from the states and I have ordered up IIDX 6th and 9th styles.
Now that I'm done with that bit I will ask this. Outside of 7th and 8th styles I'd like to try to get some of the other releases or some other Bemani games. Also, would there be anybody interested in seeing some pics of Bemani action out here? |

Sup same styles having buddy. IIDX will seem REALLY hard at first, but just keep playing. It gets really fun once you get over the initial steep learning curve.
I'd love to see some pics. |

Yea, I got a pretty good feel for it when I play some of the sim stuff on my PC. I figure this along with a RO Ignition 3.0, DDR Festival, and if one exists a Region 2 variant of codebreaker. |

Pop'N (Small controller style) would be a great idea. The small controller is sturdier then the IIDX controller. Pop'N 8 IMO is the best, with 10 being a close seccond (Raspberry <3 Heart is the best song ever). _________________

The Pop'N series was something I haven't really approached as the songs that were on DDR from it were some of the strangest ever. (Case in point being Love Love Sugar) However, it is something I might check out during the second half of my deployment depending on how far I progress in IIDX. |

Well, IIDX is a *huge* PITA compaired to Pop'N. Pop'N is easy and has fun, catchy songs. Pop'n 8 also has songs from DDR (Candy <3, MoboMoga, JetWorld, LoveLoveSugar, The original version of Stars***, Miricle Moon, Daikenkai, white lovers). Overall, the game is easier to enjoy then IIDX. IIDX has the worst learning curve, ever. Pop'N starts off easy, and is easier to read. _________________

I would definitely say Pop'n starts off easier, but I wouldn't say it's easier to read. I tried to play Pop'n for months and sucked at it, and never really got into it. Then a friend of mine got Pop'n 10th, so I tried it again, and it was still really hard.
Then I accidentally discovered Beat Pop, which makes it look like Beatmania, and suddenly I was full-comboing songs I couldn't even pass before.
Those damn Pop'n notes are uninteligible. Too many colors. _________________

I've seen some of it, it looked like tasting the rainbow gone horribly wrong. |

There are litterally 6 colors on the game. Maybe you didn't play with some sort of Pop'N controller. Its easy on an ASC. _________________

Not an ASC or anything, but a Konami official home controller.
I got confused because I couldn't read what was the top row and what was the bottom row. Even on easy songs (like <10) I'd still mess up and get misses because I was hitting the note next to the note I should be hitting but on the opposite row. (e.g. hit 5 or 7 instead of 6.) I switched to Beat Pop and, like I said, started full-comboing songs I failed before (like 30s I think) because now I could read whether things were on the top row or the bottom much more easily. Blue = top, white = bottom. _________________

Some good news and bad news. The good news is that the IIDX controller and games have arrived. The bad news, the PS2 hasn't cause the person who sent it decided to be slow about it. AARGH! |

Alright, IIDX finally arrived. After I get some practice in I'll put up some pics. Don't expect AAAs and stuff as this is the first time I've been able to play it on a proper controller. |

Pop'N won't happen most likely as it would be too much of a pain in the butt to get it out here. Also, I started putting up my IIDX scores on http://vjarmy.com/iidx/viewuser.php?user=1326 which includes my first 2 AAAs (which happened eariler this morning!) and 28 AAs. I don't really know where I am when it comes to learning the game in comparison to other people, but I figure I'm doing good enough. |

You seem to be progressing steadily...
If CNN catches you playing IIDX... Oi...

LOL!
Actually, it would say Marine found playing music games as Soldier means that it's somebody serving in the Army/National Guard.
Also, I got a Ten Commandments style pic done with my controller which can be seen at http://zagreus.yafro.com and is good for a laugh or two. |

Don't get that thing shot. Always put the IIDX controller before your life and the lives of your fellow men.

To parody a line from the Rifleman's Prayer: this is my controller, there AREN'T many like it out here and this one is MINE!!!
Actually, the chances of me seeing any combat are next to nothing due to the fact that I am a 'Data Marine.' (In other words, a VERY strong and fast computer geek.) |
