Its a game developed by some company called Arika. I know this game was released in Japan two years ago for the PS2, and now it's being released here, but I can't find any place that has it (even for preorder). I read the review of the US version on IGN and it looks fun and from what I read, its selling at $14.99 on release (which is awesome E1.gif )

Anyone play it/will be getting it?

Namco actually released it and the original "Technictics". It's a super fun game with some awesome music, including tracks by Sampling Masters (of IIDX fame).

you have a character that moves around in a shallow pind like surface, while your character is in there "ripples" come up and you have drag the ripples to other ripples and chain them. On top of that, there are smaller ripples inside of each ripple and you have to hit a button on your PS2 controller when they reach the outmost ripple.

It sounds complicated, but it's really not, just hard to explain without screenshots or video.

Finally found a copy locally today at my Gamestop. EB doesn't look like it will ever carry it.

Considering Canada gets the same games as America... yes.

I just got the game a few hours ago and whoo is it fun. I'm up to 3 stars but some of these are really killing me, (took me like 5 tries to beat The Return of Ishtar). Too bad I can't find the mp3's anywhere because some of these songs are really good.

Plus, I was playing a song (Something like Lion 12 but it was three words and ended with the number 12) and during the song I heard the lyrics "FeelinÂ’ the fire with burning desire" and "Girl, be my lady. Come on, girl, I wanna rock your baby". I was rather weirded out that lyrics from think ya better D are in it.

I actually read somewhere that this game has some 80 songs. Anyone want to confirm this, because if this is true, then it would really be worth getting.

They're called Sampling Masters because they sample. I've heard other snippets of Bemani in there too.

85 actually. And it would be worth getting if it only had half that and cost twice as much.

I played this so much I was seeing circles when I closed my eyes. That's too much playing! laugh.gif

The game actually gets much easier after you've played it a little while. There are tons of features in the gameplay to keep it challenging, too. Since I'm a rather "old fart," the namco remixes are very high on the nostalgia category.

Here's just a brief description of the features, because I'm not up to writing a one-player FAQ:

Arcade: Simple (2 songs and you can't lose), Normal (3 songs with progressively harder judging, and Channel (4 Songs -- Survival Mode). In Simple and normal, the first selection of songs is from the easy songs, the second selection is from easy and medium. In Normal, the third selection is from all songs.

Certification: Allows you to measure your skill on any one game character. You may only choose from the easier songs.

Free: Like Free Mode in IIDX. You may only select a song in Free if you attempted it earlier. I don't have them all unlocked, yet. Basically, try to play all of the songs. If you're missing some songs, they may be "Hard Versions" of songs. Hard Ver. songs are almost the exact same song, with a more difficult pattern. To unlock a Hard Ver., choose the original version of the song during the first two "periods," and then it will be selectable. Songs like: Sky Kid, Rambler, Pacmania, and Stronger have Hard Ver. I'm not sure what the colors mean, but the GREEN selections are all Namco game themes.

Sudden Death: A pre-programmed list of songs, from easiest to hardest, are played. If you get one "BAD," the game ends. It's an endurance contest.

Challenge: This is like the Challenge modes of Bemani games. It presents you with a task, like "Activate 3 markers with zero BAD ratings," and you have a short time to do it. There are at least two unique songs in Challenge: Marching Ants, and Tatat(^ ^) (I may have the names wrong), which seem to be intended for short tests. I believe there are 5 levels (very easy, easy, medium, hard, very hard) challenge courses, each with twenty lessons and twenty EX (harder) variants of those lessons.

Bonus: Pictures, Minigames, and recolor your character. See cartoon pictures of the characters when "Got a new Picture!" appears on the menu. It appears you have to play as each character to unlock them all, and then there's a couple of mysterious entries labelled "??????????" Minigames are the little dance games at the end of Arcade and Sudden Death. I haven't unlocked the Recolor mode.

I only wish there were more background stages.

I can't find this game ANYWHERE frown.gif

EDIT: I GOT A COPY! Played it for about half an hour, and it was fun. Most of the songs are pretty blah, but some are pretty great. I've only played about 10/85 songs, so I've got a ways to go.

Sadly about half of the songs on the game are pretty bad. E2.gif

It appears that GameStop had them exclusively for a week or two, but EB should have them by Thursday (according to the website).

Yes, many of the songs suck, especially if you don't like Mega. It depends what you like and what you can't stand. Roteen da Moon. PU. goog.gif

At least it's a cheap game.

One question: is the Aya that made a lot of the songs in this game the same Aya that made G2 on IIDX?

No, that's a different Aya. This is the Aya of Sampling Masters Aya, also of IIDX fame.
