I mean, It is basically a copy of DDR and kinda defeats the purpouse of buying the game when you can DL for free and buy a converter. Doesn't that make it illegal. Plus with the music liscencing crap.

Sure, it's illegal in the sense that .mp3 files are illegal. You own any .mp3 files? Same crime, pal.

I'm assuming that if you have official songs and don't have home versions with those songs on them, then they are illegal. Also some skins display Konami trademarked logos, etc.

As for a completely original skin with completley original songs, I'm not quite sure. At least they aren't selling it.

I'd also like to point out yet again that any DDR arcade game other than the two USA mixes are illegal if played in America. Even if they are the rare legit kits, they aren't for sale or use outside of Japan.

I'm not sure if the program itself is illegal, but if you have the MP3's without owning rights to them, (ie, home releases or soundtracks) then it's illegal...

The program, which is something that floats arrows upward that you have to hit, isn't illegal, or else Pump would get sued to hell for ripping off DDR.

The only copyrighted thing, I believe, is the music, and on some occasions, the art. If you own the home version or the soundtrack, it's perfectly legal.

How many people buy CD's for every .mp3 they own, though?

It didn't stop me from buying MAX2, or going to the arcades. I am just one guy though...

True, but if you own .mp3 files that you don't have the actual CD for, you're in just about as much trouble, theoretically.

Really, though, it's no big deal.

It's definitely not something Konami would endorse, but they're pretty much powerless to stop it.

Just about the only thing they can begin to do is send cease-and-desist letters to specific websites (see Bemanistyle), and even then another source will pop up in its place.

As for Japanese arcade machines being for play only in Japan? Frankly, Japanese regional regulations don't have much (if any) power outside of Japan's borders.

Even IF that was true, the vast majority of arcade machines have bootleg kits anyway. I don't know much about international copyright law, so I can't really give a much better response.

My avatar is a naked mole rat, though now I can see it does somewhat look like a penis. With eyes.
