Well I just installed it this morning out of curiosity and cuz I have an extreme skin for CVS. This version is "marvelous". There are a bunch of non-stop courses all random though. Options are all under one category now. There is a jukebox feature, that is like Auto-Play I think. There is now random and roulette like Extreme. Oni courses are nicer looking now, and your score is memorized. I'm not sure if the same problem of missing 1 jump takes off 2 batteries. The order of my song folders is enhanced, meaning no more 4 ABC orders per song folder. Oh and there is .25x arrow speed mod now. I also think that the songs loaded up faster, maybe. Oh and there are "marvelous!!!" steps now before perfects.

I did have a problem, I tried to do the turtle and hare non-stop course and I put 1.5x arrow speed and it crashed before opening the second options, this is probably due to the fact that turtle and hare non-stop courses already use speed mods? Well SM 3.00 Final never crashed on me, so I am going to keep both for now.

Somebody share with me, where I can get an announcer for SM CVS though, please.

Oni mode is superb now. Jumps count as 1 step and greats no longer boost your combo. There is also a choice between Pump and DDR, where the pump it up steps are generated from the .dwi files. And another cool addition is that long songs count as 2 songs like in 5th mix.
THE ONLY PROBLEM I HAVE HAD IS USING A SPEED MOD IN NONSTOP COURSES, THIS CAUSES SM CVS TO CRASH. Oh and aparently this game supports dancers, so there's alot of add-ons, if only I knew where... As soon as I get an announcer I'm probably going to ditch SM 3.00 for this.
Well thats all for my comparison.

i'm pretty sure the announcer files for sm 3.0 work for cvs/alpha/beta releases.

there are no official extreme themes yet, so stick with the latest cvs/alpha release SMMAX2/default skin for best results.

you forgot to mention magic dance E1.gif

The announcers at www.stepmania.com work for CVS as well as 3.0 final. As for the crashing, you can't expect CVS to not crash at least some of the time (if you've ever done a beta test or done any of your own software development you should understand why). Personally I keep both on my computer, but I only use 3.0 when a really unstable CVS comes out. Oh 4.0, where art thou.

Unfortunately, I have done some C++ programming and I know why software crashes. I'm not even surprised when windows collapses from time to time.
I wasn't sure about the announcer, but thanks. And Dance Magic?? Like in Disney Mix? I'm in Myrtle beach this week so I can't play with this cool stuff. But I did play a non-stop course today on Extreme and there are no speed mods allowed anyways.
BTW, I passed Cartoon Heroes Maniac today.

Update:
You can use speed mods in non-stop courses on Extreme, my bad.

Y'know its weird. I've had Stepmania CVS all summer, and it has yet to crash.
