I guess I'll be getting Pop'n then. The set I'm getting doesn't come with 6th, but I guess I'll get that later. I'll just have to keep myself busy with 1-5. Anyways, even though I don't have the ACS controller, will it still be jolly fun? riiight.gif

Heh, so you saw that lot on ebay, too?

And yes, the game is still super fun even without the full size controller. Hell, I use a custom built controller that's just microswitch arcade buttons mounted in shelf board, and it's still an absolute blast. Don't believe anybody that tells you otherwise. ;-)

And to see Pop'n Music really shine, look for 6 eventually. The first 5 play great, but the series got insanely awesome when 6 came out.

I'd put in a vote for beatmania. For some reason, 5 key is harder than 7 key for me! Pop'n music is good, but beatmania's music and style just appeal to me more (I HATE kawaii). I've never played on the regular PNM controller, but it's pretty small. At least with BM, the official controller isn't a total POS compared to the ASC (BM ASC isn't even worth the extra $200 or so to me, but if I was into PNM I'd definitely get an ASC).

Hmm, it seems that Beatmania is way cooler than PNM, but PNM's unique style and it's fun factor seem to attract me more. E19.gif . This is a highly tough decision.

Seriously, though, the note patterns in DDR are super simple. If it weren't for the fact that you play with your feet, it would be really boring. Beatmania (original, IIDX, and III,) and Pop'n Music both have much more complex notes.

Really, I'd LOVE to see your scores on Legend Road and True Demon Road if you think its too easy.

DDR home versions suck, IMO. Soft pads an blow me.

I've got Pop 'n 7 with a controller and I can safely say that I think it's tremendously overrated. I ind myself skipping over half the songlist each time I play. And the fact that there's so few EX songs and you can olny get them under certain conditions.

So I say Beatmania (Especially club mix). It's fun, got good music, and unlike Pop 'n, you don't have to shell out 450 dollars just to get buttons that remotely resemble the arcade. That and Da Musik just flat out rocks.

Mmm, I don't know. The average Beatmania barely has half the songs of a modern Pop'n Music release. And most of the stuff on BM is techno, trance, or rave, with a few notable exceptions. The only upside is that you get the pretty video. If I had choice of an arcade cabinet, I'd probably take PNM 9 over IIDX 9th Style.

It's more like what doesn't it have? Heh. There's rock, hard rock, punk rock, jazz, scottish, marching, trance, country, metal, disco, dance, and a good selection of pop style vocal tracks. And I know I'm forgetting a bunch of them.

To be honest, I wouldn't get PNM for PS1 cuz there is only one good Pop'n game, Pop'n 6th. I'm a Pop'n whore but I think Pop'n 1-5 are crap. There's some good songs on each one but overall they are not like Pop'n 6-7.

IMHO, Pop'n 1-5 = BM 1-3

Pop'n got better on home consoles starting from 6th (maybe 5th, but I REALLY hate 5th's interface) as did BM after 3rd mix.

I've played both games and have BM 1-6 (plus others) and Pop'n 1-7 (no best hits, don't need it) and I would recommend BM if you had to make a choice between those two games on that console. If you were getting a J-PS2 then I wouldn't recommend BM, it would definately be Pop'n. But because of the console, I'll recommend BM. It was better, sooner, on PSX than Pop'n was so it should keep you more entertained then Pop'n would on psx.

I'LL KILL YOU.

No seriously, don't listen to this hater. Hes just hatin'. What a hater.

ANYWAYS, as like everyone said, Pop'n Music didn't start getting GOOD until 6. Not to say the other mixes are bad (some of the music is bad ass) but there was nothing special about the series until 6. That is when like... EVERY song in the game was good, and every mix thus far followed (hold for Autumn... yick.)

Get Pop'n Music. You won't regret it.

Pop'n has a big variety of music, but depending on your tastes half of it might be crap. Don't get me wrong, there are some cool pop'n songs that would never find their way into BM, but variety doesn't automatically = good. Also, I think a lot of the fun factor in Pop'n Music (throwing your arms around) would get lost with the little standard controller.

Pop'n fans can be very outspoken, but some people just prefer IIDX/BM E13.gif. I'd say download... I mean buy some PNM and BM music and see which you like better.

i·ron·ic (?-r?n??k) also i·ron·i·cal (?-r?n??-k?l) Pronunciation Key

adj.

1. Characterized by or constituting irony.
2. Given to the use of irony. See Synonyms at sarcastic.
3. Poignantly contrary to what was expected or intended: madness, an ironic fate for such a clear thinker.

i·ron?i·cal·ly adv.
i·ron?i·cal·ness n.

Usage Note: The words ironic, irony, and ironically are sometimes used of events and circumstances that might better be described as simply “coincidental” or “improbable,” in that they suggest no particular lessons about human vanity or folly. Thus 78 percent of the Usage Panel rejects the use of ironically in the sentence In 1969 Susie moved from Ithaca to California where she met her husband-to-be, who, ironically, also came from upstate New York. Some Panelists noted that this particular usage might be acceptable if Susie had in fact moved to California in order to find a husband, in which case the story could be taken as exemplifying the folly of supposing that we can know what fate has in store for us. By contrast, 73 percent accepted the sentence Ironically, even as the government was fulminating against American policy, American jeans and videocassettes were the hottest items in the stalls of the market, where the incongruity can be seen as an example of human inconsistency.
