Slab> That's your opinion, and one I'm afraid I don't share. Take a look at the oni courses; they are on 1x (or whatever whacked-out mod they use, i.e. the "Trick" oni). Now, Yasu, Take, and I like to use 1.5 on the Max's, though Sakura and Para-saba-oni tend to be kept at 1x. Look at the final IR results for the "Legend Oni" course on Konami's page; 1st, 2nd, and 4th respectively (side note: damn you, "UMA" laugh.gif ). Can't say that using speed mods hurt our oni performances. You can go back and see the Max2 IR and see that I was in the top 10 (7th and 6th for Demon Road Courses 1 and 2 respectively...) for the Demon Road 1 and 2 courses, and there are no speed mods there (except the last stage in each course). Again, can't say using speed mods hurt me.

If they (speed mods) were "cheating", then why were speed mods allowed on *all* the general IR courses (not the oni courses) on the Max2 Internet Rankings? Konami doesn't seem to care, and neither do I.

However, I still respect your opinion and will leave you to play however you want to play, and I will play how I want. Perhaps it is the environement in which I live. Speed mods/the bar are always allowed at all of the tournaments; noone cares *at all* if you use speed mods, I have only had 1 guy comment when I used the bar, but that was when he saw me :AAA Love Again Tonight (Heavy), and he kind of lost his care whether or not I used the bar on some songs or not; we sometimes play DDR together in Kamiooka (The Earth; the crappiest arcade in Kanagawa, but DDR is 100 yen...so it's not bad...it's no Muthos, though).

Ugh, I write too much.

That makes no sense at all. That's like entering a bowling tournament, putting your 16 lb. reactive urethane ball in your car and using a 12 lb. cheap plastic ball, cause it makes the game more difficult. The object is to win E15.gif

Win? When did DDR machines start giving out prizes? I thoguht the whole point was for the game to be interesting and challenging, while still providing enough gradation that people of all levels could learn and improve.

I think a better bowling/speed mod analogy is bowling, but shortenting the lane.

I think that people should use speed mods or not, what ever makes the game fun for them. The object is to have fun.

If you are really concerned about "winning" then you should play the song as the author intended. Especially with songs that were made before speed mods, like MSL. (which incently I can A with speed mods, but often fail without, so I don't really count myself as doing well on that song until I don't need the crutch of speed mods).

If you are in a tournement and they allow mods, then, sure, use them to win. It would be stupid not to. But the rest of the time, no one should care but you.

I think of it more as using bumpers in the gutters while at the bowling alley =P But I digress...

I don't play with speed mods that often, unless I just feel like a change. To me, 1.5x cheapens a 90% of the songs out there because it makes them way easier to read. It's like getting big print editions of the reader's digest or something. I would rather improve my step reading skills.

I still fail to see the point of how speed mods are so "cheap". If they make you play better then you should use them if you want to get your best possible score, I dont see how speeding the arrows up make any accomplishment any worse at all.

I like to play with speed mods, but I can play without them. Most songs I like on 2-3x, so yes, I am a speed mod whore. I play things that are <<140 on 3x and more than that on 2, up to like that 200+ BPM range where it's either 1.5x or nothing. I don't have a problem with playing songs on 1x on like Oni mode, but just for free play or practise I try to get the best scores I can achieve by using mods. On songs that are only challanging because of the fact they are hard to read, I generally leave them off though... Things like Orion 78. Amuero, Bag, etc. MSL doesn't seem to offer much of a challange, even on 1x because I find the patterns simplistic, but maybe that's just me. I seem to think that MSL on heavy feels more like an 8, maybe even a really hard 7 by the newer standards for songs (look at Fantasy on MAX2... Does that feel like a 6!? Hell no!) on the more recent mixes, but Orion 78. A. still seems to offer me some challange on 1x simply because I don't play it often. That's just my 2 cents...

AAA is still a AAA with or without mods. Before I started my light AAA binge just under 2 weeks ago I played irresistiblement light w/o mods. I AAA'ed it, but I didn't have my camera so i couldn't take a pic. The next day I played it again on 2x speed and AAA'ed it again(took pic this time). Was i just as happy with the no mods AAA as the one with mods? Yes, yes I was because they were both AAA's.

Okay, tell you what; next time we are all at Muthos, I'll suggest that we do some AAAs without mods to make you happy. Is that all right? E1.gif

In the meantime, you can appreciate Take's AAA on Sakura which was done without mods.

i know i cant force my opinion on others, i have just always felt that it is more gratifying to get the AAA without "aides;" as i think of them. its not that it changes the steps, its that it spreads them out, making complicated patterns easier to read. i feel like i have cheated if i get a good score or AAA when using mods. but again, this is just my opinion.

I like mods, but I don't use them that much. But my sister always uses them... mostly on 2x. But anyway, I usually keep it at 1x or 1.5x.
