alright now i pretty much live at arcades so i can critique some stuff here-

Crazy Taxi is getting old and hasn't aged well. I personally don't really recommend it anymore.

HOTD3. Good choice there.

TC2. bleh, go with TC3 with the 51" screens. MUCH BETTER.

DDR- as long as you get extreme

Dance freaks- have no idea

MvC2, GTG- personally don't like but see people playing them all the time

pinball- YES!! not enough arcades have them anymore

Air Hockey- a give. any good arcade must have a kickass air hockey table

Top Skater- annoying game. most people i see give it one go and then leave it alone. also looks like a pretty expensive cabinet.

initial d- never heard of it.

main thing i see that you're missing is RACING GAMES. here in fort wayne we have a 6-player daytona USA setup and it KICKS MAJOR buttocks even though daytona by itself is a pretty lame racing game. buying six cabinets of the same game is alot, so i'd recommend getting four racing games (Rush 2049 is a good semi-new game to get).
And please don't get any of the Cruisn' crap.

other Bemani games would be cool for people that hang out on this forum, but most regular people don't go for it.

oh yes, Soul Caliber 2

if you're getting a 3rd mix, make sure it's not just STRAIGHT UP 3rd mix.

at least a Korean ver. 2...

and as for racing games, i like konami's "thrill drive" we have one down here i love it. (despite the fact that i can't stand racing games)

First mix would be a bad choice. It only has a handful of songs(11 i think). Which gets old really fast. Plus you have awful system where you have to put in codes to select different difficulty levels. Plus I think on that one they penalize you for stepping on the arrows when the arrow isn't in the box yet. So you pretty much have to go back to the center.

The minimum you should get is a 3rd mix(korean 2 is best) or even better would be a 4th mix plus or 5th mix if you can't afford some else newer.

Also basketball games and skeeball games... just don't put a basketball game by DDR... You have no idea how many times I've been hit while dancing on Extreme. disgust.gif But hey, it's still fun to play! Oh yeah, and like others have said, racing games are good. At my old arcade, Cruisin' World actually was like the 2nd or 3rd best money maker... DDR being 1st, of course. E7.gif

Taking from Kel's note, make sure you get an air hockey table--but keep it as far away from the DDR machine as you can. Maybe foosball...

I prefer TC2 to TC3, so if I were in your area I'd go. ^_^ Beyond that, Silent Scope 2 with two-player link is always fun.

ALSO taking from Kel's note, I love the 3rdKorea2, for one reason that will never, ever show up on another DDR machine: Strictly Business.

Just to clarify for you guys, Initial D IS a racing game, based on the anime. It's actually really cool, it lets you save your data on their own storage cards you get the first time you play. Seems like a great choice, but put it near the bemani machine(s) as I've heard it's a common waiting-for-DDR game.

I would have to confess that I would rather play EXTREME than 1st mix, but I haven't played 1st, and I want to have a better understanding of what DDR was like back from day 1. When I'm really into something, I like to have a decent understanding of what the early days were like based on my interests. But that's just me. E1.gif

Just so you know 1st and 2nd mix cabinets can't be upgraded. Thats why they're so cheap. It doesn't help their value that their songs have been repeated on almost every other machine.

3rd mix is actually pretty good as is. Just buy 3rd, keep it in good condition, and make it just slightly cheaper than the Extreme next door. If you really have to save money though, skip DDR for now and buy it later. Pre-3rd and solo machiens are dead ends. The demand for bootlegged Extreme kits ( and legit ones ) is going to drop dramatically soon. And just maybe demand for the cabinet will drop too. You could be doing yourself a big favor by waiting a few months.

Besides DDR there are other Bemani machines. I think Dance Maniax and Guitar Freaks are about $1500. 5-key Beatmania isn't really in demand but if you see a deal you can't refuse on an old unit you should take it since you can upgrade to the final version. PopN and IIDX are popular but probably too expensive. Definately stick to games with the Bemani label, of course. The only beat/music arcade unit that ever got any attention without the Bemani trademark was Pump It Up.

Non Music Games: Silent Scope ( personal favorite ), Time Crisis ( arcade staple ), Soul Calibur2, Tekken 4, Rush 2049, Arctic Thunder, Pinball for sure and maybe Air Hockey. Redemption is really popular right now but that catagory doesn't have any clear winners, does it?

Please consider Para Para Paradise 2nd Mix instead of Dance Freaks. It's much more fun, better designed, and gets reasonable attention. Dance Freaks/Dance Maniax series doesn't get played too often.

[not trolling]

So you'd drive all the way out there to play some PPP? Get a life Daniel.

Honestly don't get either of these games, they break after a little bit of wear, and are both discontinued. ParaPara was a stupid fad in Japan that died ever so quickly.

And yes don't waste money on Top Skater either.
