5th mix rules. It had some cool exclusives like Conga Feeling, pretty much ALL of the captain Jack stuff, and MOONLIGHT SHADOW .
It had charmy as a pizza girl too! |

I loved 5th Mix, it was in our arcade for over a year (it replaced the 3rd, people still miss it aorund here, can you believe it?). I loved the songs on it. Nowadays we have Extreme, but in Cedar Rapids there is a 5th mix still operational, and the place it is in has longer hours than the arcade, so I always go up there and play some rounds of 5th Mix after the arcade closes. _________________

5th mix was and has always been my favorite mix. Extreme and MAX2 have competed for my attention, but 5th is still special somehow to me. I mean, don't get me wrong; the addition of Oni, nonstop, and all the new songs of MAX2 and Extreme are great, but seriously, 5th is one of those mixes that cannot be forgotten for being the last genuinely unique mixes. Choosing characters, a unique interface, the old announcer, great songs, and much more make it one of my favorites. MAX and up are just updated copies of each other. There's no more innovation except for in the songs. I was so upset to see my Nickel City get rid of 5th in one machine for MAX2, which was moved from a better machine to make way for Extreme. I still enjoy Extreme, but given the chance, I'd take 5th. _________________

I'm personally a fan of 5th Mix myself. It has a good overall selection of songs with some great selections from Beatmania IIDX (Electro Tuned, The Cube, Radical Faith, Abyss, etc.), and the interface is sleek and intuitive. It was the end of one style of DDR gameplay (no speed modifiers, Oni mode), and a good introduction to a new style with the 60 FPS graphics, redesigned interface, and other things. Plus 5th Mix has the best "How to Play" and "Mode Select" background songs ever, IMHO. =) |

After reading all of these posts, I about to become a 5th mix hater.
At the place I play they have an Extreme, 4 songs for a dollar, a 5th, 5 songs for .75 cents and a Max 1, 5 songs for .50 cents. When I am there I play the over priced Extreme and when I am waiting for that I play the Max. No one else seems to play the 5th anymore either.
There are some good songs on 5th, but I like So Deep literally 10 times better than any of the songs on 5th. I like speed mods; if a song isn't scrolling at least at 450 bpm, it's boring. I hate characters; the are pointless and are nothing but distracting. I hate that you have to full combo for an AA. Also, there aren't any crazy hard songs on it at all.
Really, most of the only good songs are made by Konami, and have consequently made it to to Extreme. Most of the few good licensed songs (i.e. R&P, Captian Jack, etc.) are on Extreme. Yes, it has BB$, Hot Limit, and, umm...that's about it, but So Deep is 5 times better than those songs combined.
It's not like I am some hatin' newb; I started on a 3rd (which also basically sucks, btw...). It's just that I like the newer mixes better. If that arcade had to get rid of one machine, then get rid of that 5th.
Now if it had My Fire with the maniac2 steps, it'd be another matter... _________________

5th mix is great. Futuhara, Lupin, B4u Glorius, No Limit, Lot's of Capn' Jack.
5th was the first machine I was starting to get good on. Then they banned my friend, and no one goes there now.

One think 5th has going for it (at least for me) is that the whole theme/feeling/whatever you want to call it is just so... fun. It looks and sounds fun. It's happy and colorful without being extremely gay. That's what DDR is about for me, so 5th is one of my favorites. |
I see what you mean about 5th Mix being happy and colorful and I agree with you. It DOES give you that nice, happy feeling inside. |

Hell, he can say what he wants if he feels that it has to be said... Of course, it didn't at all, but if he wants to, he can. Too many commas, in my response. _________________

I actually like the 5th cause most of the songs off there were carried from the 4th. It's old school too! I still play it every now and then, but I'm more into the mixes right after the 5th. |

This has got to be the worst flame bait I have seen in a long time. There is no way 5th mix could possibly be considered bad even by our standards. 5th mix wasn't a quantam leap of improvement over 4th mix, but it still was an improvement by the way it added even more quantity and quality to song list. |

Never played 5th mix, but I'd take a 3rd mix plus over Extreme any day.
E-Rotic's songs > EVERYTHING.
And I've been playing for... One year this month. _________________

DDRkrazy wrote: | what about electrotuned and insertion? those songs kick buttocks, id love to play on a 5th mix but the one near me got upgrade to extreme | Um... did you know that both those songs are ON DDR Extreme? Just hit both arrows at once to change sort mode. INSERTiON is under "5th mix," and Electro Tuned is under "Beatmania IIDX."
Anyway, my favorite mixes, in order:
#1 DDR Extreme
Most songs, hardest songs, most fun songs (IMO), oni mode.
#2 DDRMAX2
Same reasons as DDR Extreme, but less so.
#3 DDR 4th Mix Plus
All the classics, and a whole lot of songs overall.
#4 DDRMAX / 5th Mix
Songs you can't play anywhere else.
DDR Extreme wins. 5th mix is good, but given the choice, I'd play Extreme. _________________

True... that was a kickass song, extreme doesnt have furuhata's theme either, one of my favorite songs, but whatever, extreme is still a good mix.
And I miss picking characters too, did 5th mix do that? I forget. |
Yeah, 5th Mix did that. |

The problem here is that people who do stuff like hate on 5th is that well, they're new. They probably played ex as their first and granted 5th mix can't compare but it was the best for its time. 5th was the extreme of what '99 or so?i started on a 5th so i used to say that everything before it was crap but i neer even played them. When i got dwi and every song, i stopped saying stupid n00b crap like that and wised up to the fact you gotta look bac and appreciate where it all came from. |

5th is an awesome mix. It's my 2nd fav next to 4th plus.
Personally, I think 5th is better than Max2 and Extreme. I really didn't care much for Extreme at all. I like 5th's announcer better and I really love the song selection on 5th. Yeah, I'm old school. Started out on a 4th mix machine so I really like the old school songs.
I was so pissed when they replaced the nearest 5th mix with an Extreme machine |
