Correct...
And thats the reason I refuse to use those things...It's like a handicap or something
I'm not saying I'm against them...*I* just don't/won't use them _________________

That makes no sense at all. That's like entering a bowling tournament, putting your 16 lb. reactive urethane ball in your car and using a 12 lb. cheap plastic ball, cause it makes the game more difficult. The object is to win

Win? When did DDR machines start giving out prizes? I thoguht the whole point was for the game to be interesting and challenging, while still providing enough gradation that people of all levels could learn and improve.
I think a better bowling/speed mod analogy is bowling, but shortenting the lane.
I think that people should use speed mods or not, what ever makes the game fun for them. The object is to have fun.
If you are really concerned about "winning" then you should play the song as the author intended. Especially with songs that were made before speed mods, like MSL. (which incently I can A with speed mods, but often fail without, so I don't really count myself as doing well on that song until I don't need the crutch of speed mods).
If you are in a tournement and they allow mods, then, sure, use them to win. It would be stupid not to. But the rest of the time, no one should care but you. |

Yeah, no one should care but you how you play. If you want to use speed mods then go ahead, if you don't then thats fine too. As long as you are happy with your results then it shouldn't matter.
As for that MSL thing, well once you start getting to a certain point in playing then what starts to matter is how many greats you get. I mean I can AA MSL on both 1x and 2x speed, but I do get less greats on it on the higher speed. I'm happy with both my results, but when I play the song, I'm going to use 2x speed just so i can work to improve my PA on the song.(although I never really play the song anymore and I haven't really played it much since 5th mix ).
Oh and disregard what I said earlier about doing better on so deep on 1x over 2x speed. That's more of an exception to the rule, since I usually do better on higher speeds. _________________

At first I thought this was gonna be a thread about the X-Men movies..
I never play with speed mods myself. They make it harder for me 'cause you have less time to know and prepare for which arrows are going to scroll up. Plus, I started out with 5th Mix so I never had the option of training and practicing with a speed mod. Hence why I never use them.. and also, Oni courses don't have speed mods (except for a couple) so it helps to get used to 1x. _________________

I always use 1.5 cuz its helping me get a lot of AA's. I only yse 2 on certain songs. I always use 1.5 to help me get the hang of the song _________________

I use speed mods sparingly because I don't want to lose my 1x skill for oni courses. Using mods can help on certain songs, but I try to mix things up a bit when playing normal sets. _________________

There are a few songs I play with them, just because I really can't do it otherwise.
Orion Civil
So Deep
Cartoon Heroes
Even though I hardly play these songs in the first place. I am usually a good avid reader of 1x speed otherwise. _________________

I think it's alright to use speed mods, but I never use them.
If a person claims to have beaten a difficult song, but with using a speed mod to make it easier, I'd look down at that. I don't believe anybody has truely cleared a song until they beat it on 1x. _________________

An AAA is a AAA with or without Speed Mods, no matter what you do it still gives you the same amount of points. If your playing Maxx Unlimited on boost and x1.5 and AAA it, it is still going to give you 100,000,000 points. _________________

I use x1.5 when I am going for a AAA also, so don't feel bad about it. _________________

Same here, and I mostly try it to AA stuff. Not AAA material yet. |

I can't really read speed mods very well at all. so I don't use them. I'm perfectly happy with it on normal speed. I read clumps of arrows. I don't react to individual arrows as well. _________________

Yes, spread the good news. Songs are tough to PA on Heavy and sometimes Standard on 1x. |

speed mods are a crutch. if you cant read the arrows the way they were meant to be read, it just means you have to practice more. i really wish that konami would have had a system to deduct points or change ratings when mods are used, because any slow song on high speed suddenly makes it about 2 or 3 ft easier. _________________

I think that if u have to use mods on a song to beat it then go ahead and do so
But it is better if u can pass songs with out them _________________
