Hi,
I'm working on campaigning, to get a DDR machine at our local bowling alley/arcade. Currently, the nearest one is 45 minutes away.

My current idea is to hit the main points. Survey all the people that go there, and see how many would be willing to play DDR, and how many already do.

I also want to find out how much other locations make off the game, with an estimated population of the town. Also, I'd like to see how much USED DDR machines cost.

I actually live in a very small town, of 420 people. But I go to the town over, for my socializing, school, etc. Which is where it would be. However, the town is still only 6000 people.

I need your help, if you're willing. Statistics, and costs for machines if you can find any. I'm getting sick of having to drive 45 minutes away and into Indiana to burn all my money on just DDR.

Have any suggestions?

In our local arcade one of the big money makers is the DDR machine, players put about $10 or more a day into the machine alone.

There is always a huge line to play and people watching and spectating. Most likely when they go in to check out DDR they will spend some money on other games as well.

We have also noticed if the DDR machine is not kept in good condition the arcade tends to lose money off of there DDR machines. So make sure they keep their pads in excellent condition then everyone will be happy.

Try and get more people in your area intrested in the game and then bring it up to the arcade manager, and tell him the good points about the game.

6K people? Ouch. I think you might have to keep with driving 45 minutes for DDR. The thing is not only do you to convince the arcade owners that they could make money of you, but they need to then make money or they'll sell it. ChannelBeat.com sells machines and those are rather expensive, used. 3-5K for a dance machine. NEW DDR machines is something you're not going to get someone to buy.

Really to get them to buy you're going to need to prove to them that they'll have lines on the weekend. Get everyone from your school who wants the machine and have them come in every week and have them all ask for a DDR machine to be put in. If they see enough people continually coming back for weeks in a row they might go with it. Maybe not.

Good luck.

Daniel - The campaign is sort of a summer project. It started last week, where me and my friend began outlining what we needed to do. But nothing is public yet. Our town is also the "main" one of our county, sort of. So all of the surrounding counties 3 - 5k people, come to our bowling alley for whatever.

Gogo - Thanks for your insight. I think I chose a bad time of the year. It will be harder to find everyone during the summer, although not as hard as I think it would be a 3 years ago. My social life has drastically increased. Also, thanks very much for the link; that will help a great deal.

I'll try to keep everything updated in this post. Again, thanks for the help.

I'm in the Atlanta metro area here, so I don't know much about small towns, but..... I have talked to people from small towns and it seems as though EVERYBODY hangs out at only a handful of places.... sometimes even Wal Mart.... and it seems like a bowling alley would be a big hangout...

So just tell him that it's a fresh game that the town hasn't seen before, and that's it's really popular around the world, and it would make money. *shrug*

A DDR machine costs a lot of money, its not easy to persuade a company to gamble with such things... you could try writing a formal letter discussing the positive aspects of buying a DDR machine, followed by the idea of how the owner can make his/her money back and the length of time. No doubt they will take a lot to persuade but I can say that DDR machines do make money... well at least in the uK anyway.

Also I know some people have to drive like 2 hours to the nearest DDR machine... people who live in the country side.. now thats bad blink.gif

Yeah, that's the way it is out here, kinda. We're all out in the boonies. We have to go to a larger city, (Terre Haute, Indiana), to get our game play in.

I'm not sure how easy persuading the owner will be. He's only one, and it's a small town, keep that in mind. So everybody knows everybody, including the owner. He's a real nice guy. I hope he'll keep an open mind.

Unless you go to a Nickel Arcade then the machine probably makes a hell of a lot more then that.

Well, when WA had all of the DDR EX's and us in Oregon were stuck with MAX2, we sent a letter to the owner of our arcade, and less then a month later they upgraded to EX.
