What is the best thing you think about each mix featured in DDR? For example I think the quantity and quality is the best attribute of DDR Extreme. But what about the other mixes?

1.5 mix -- some songs are O...K. I like playing My Fire and B2U on there.

USA Mix -- Oh, man find me something good to say about this. Well, if it didn't have beginner mode, then I would probably have not learned the game when I first played it two years ago.

2nd/3rd/SSR -- Song selection is large, and the ability to change from one mix to another is cool.

4th mix -- I like how you don't select songs by CD, but by title graphic. And there's a bunch of songs.

5th mix -- Cool graphics, danceable songs, AAA, danceable songs.

Max -- Max 300.

Max2 -- Oni courses

Extreme -- Danceable songs, the return of nonstop mode, and more oni courses.

I tell you what I know from the machines I played.

4th Mix had songs catergorized which I thought was cool, but again I don't think you were able to play any song you liked unless it was on All Music. It also had alot of good songs, but Plus is better!

5th had alot of the songs from 4th Mix/Plus and alot of good songs from 5th.

6th had the secret options mode, the 1st 10 footer, freeze arrows, and many things.

7th more like the 6th like I described earlier, but with Oni Courses and if I'm correct Nonstop courses too. I don't play Max 2 that much!

8th has everything from Oni Courses, 10 footers, freeze arrows, secret options, Nonstop courses, it's the best and last mix we'll see ever!

5th Mix introduced the sorting method, pressing both selection arrows then the green button at once sorted by ABC, BPM, and BEST making people able to find songs a whole lot easier. Also had some of the best music and long versions too. Last mix with characters and had a faster framerate than the previous mixes.

1st - Invention of DDR.
2nd - Stepping on the wrong arrows shouldn't penalize you.
3rd - Separate arrow colors for different timings (or was that 2nd?), and the 9-foot difficulty rating.
4th - LOTS of songs. Some innovative new songs, like R&P and Drop Out.
5th - Boosted framerate.
6th - Innovative new step designs that follow the music better (So Deep, Fantasy, etc.), freeze arrows, new mods, and MAX 300. (TryExtraStage!)
7th - Oni mode! devil.gif And lots of returning songs.
EX - Loads of new 10s, bag, hard-as-hell onis, the Trick mods, lots of Bemani imports. And, of course, the return of beginner mode.

1: The begining of DDR
2: Songs focus a little more on technique
3: Lots of fast songs and songs with steps designed to wear you out.
4: Steps Focuses more on fun, until 4th plus. New interface
5: Higher framerate
6: Freeze arrows and very well designed steps for nearly all songs. Songs here really focus on technique
7: Several songs have badly designed jumps, but still focus on technique.
8: More 10 foot songs, songs from all bemani, and steps to the new songs are a mixed bag.

5th Mix: Long versions.
6th Mix: The video for true...(either version), marked the appearance first insanely hard song, MAX 300

1st Mix: (HV) Regulation steps, though it wouldn't be a favorite now...
2nd Mix: Simplistic. Get in, pick a song, play.
3rd Mix/Plus: Revolutionary mix. Included many songs.
4th Mix/Plus: Wide variety of songs. Many favorites.
Solo: Single player...but no doubles...
5th Mix: Better frame rate.
6th Mix (MAX): ....errr....Max 300? Even better frame rate.
7th Mix (MAX2): Better variety than MAX. Old songs with good frame rate.
Extreme: Other Bemani songs. A. Nuff Said. E15.gif

My favorite...? It's gonna be 4th Mix Plus...

1st Mix: The start of DDR.
2nd Mix: Stomp To My Beat. Thats all
3rd Mix: Tons of great songs, and SSR mode.
4th Mix: Awesome interface, cool looking characters, and unforgettable music. Graphics got a major facelift.
5th Mix: Best mix of all. The interface was damn sexy(and the interface music), the songs perfect, the charcters adorable, and the overall presentation a crowd pleaser.
6th Mix: Best debut songs, and nice interface music
7th Mix: IMO, there was nothing to like.
8th: Brings back oldies, nonstop mode, sleek interface, Oni songs, and other Bemani songs. An all star.

A personal observation: In 3rd Mix, you chose between mixes (3rd/SSR/2nd), and in 4th Mix, you chose between genres. It wasn't until 4th Mix Plus that you had a true all music mode with more than 100 selectable songs. As I see it, both 3rd and 4th had groupings to choose between.

Onto the topic at hand:

1st: Gotta start somewhere. Song Count: 14

2nd: Keep a good thing going. Song Count: 42

3rd: The real breakout mix. Raised the bar on song selection, difficulty. Added Double Maniac. Song Count: 75-90 depending on version

4th: Widen the songlist. Inetrface made it easier to identify songs adjacent to the one highlighted. Downside was the narrow grade system, Only D through AA. Song Count: 136

4th Plus: All Music Mode. Very large, comprehensive songlist including everything from 1,2,3, and 4. Downside was the narrow grade system, Only D through AA. Song Count: 150

5th: Finally they nailed the interface screen to something that can last. Framerate increase a definite plus. Has unique songs not on any other mixes, including long versions, and a considerably large selection on the whole. Grade system was made wider again, from E to AAA. Song Count: 122

6th/Max: First use of Freeze Arrows, FMV backgrounds, Max announcer, Radar. Downsides were small songlist, no foot ratings. Song Count: 42

7th/Max2: Oni courses, good new songs. Songlist was made bigger again, including the stuff from 6th. Song Count: 115

8th/Extreme: Huge songlist, biggest by far. Nonstop is back. Brought back old songs, only mainstream mix to have stuff form Club versions. "Marvelous" step judgement on Nonstop/Oni. More super-catas then ever. Can play Challenge steps on Main mode. Song Count: 241

Song counts may not be entirely accurate.

Reasons you should love...

1st Mix: Because you still think Butterfly is the best thing since sliced bread.

2nd Mix: Because of those terribly made double steps that makes you fall off the stage by default.

3rd Mix: If you think perfect great attacking the song should earn you a SS.

4th Mix: Because you can never play all the songs you love in the same game.

4th Mix Plus: Because you love to scroll around for hours searching for your song in All Music mode.

5th Mix: Because you believe freeze arrows are evil and should burn in hell.

6th Mix: Because you'd die without ever playing Ghost or Bye Bye Baby Balloon.

7th Mix: Because you love to have song difficulties misprinted and song names misspelled.

8th Mix: Because you hate The Matrix so much that the green color theme and all those obscure references back to that God AWFUL movie is driving you insane. Or, because after all those years playing DDR, you STILL think Butterfly is the best thing since sliced bread.

Honestly, I think sliced bread is wwwwwway overrated.

1st Mix: Gotta start somewhere. Had songs I recognized like "That's the way I like it."

2nd Mix: More songs.

3rd Mix/3rd Mix Plus: Way higher difficulity. 7 Korean songs taken from 3rd Mix Korea V.2 for Japanese audiences, basically the same 7 songs from 3rd Mix Korea V.1. (I really have no idea why they did this).

Solo Bass/Solo 2K: First machine with speed modifiers (fast, slow, special), challenging 6 panel mode, great 3 song nonstops, only games that featured mostly "Bass" music from the Dancemania Bass series. frown.gif

4th Mix/ 4th Mix Plus: Interesting interface with "genre" selection screen. All DDR songs to date (150) except 2 were available in "All Music Mode" on 4th Mix Plus.

5th Mix: Smoother arrow scrolling. Only mix with "long versions" of songs. First appearance of the song selection wheel used in both Max mixes and Extreme.

6th Mix (Max): All new music. DDR difficulity graph first introduced.

7th Mix (Max 2): Challenging Oni Courses, return of some older Konami DDR music, return of "foot ratings" for those who didn't like the graph.

8th Mix (Extreme): Awesome variety of songs from all previous mixes as well as music from other Bemani games. Some older non Konami Originals (Dancemania music) brought back too. Return of nonstop mode from 3rd/4th Mix.

Which is why those who hates freeze arrows would love to revert back to 5th Mix.
