Yes. Yes you do. To get to the nine-footer level, you pretty much have to play at least two or three times a week for a year, or everyday for about four months. That's pretty obsessed right there. Getting a's on nine-footers takes about another month or two, I'd say.

you're kidding, right? Okay, I played everyday (home version 3rd mix) for a month. Then I weened myself off the home pad and on to the arcade unit (still not knowing any ssr/maniac comfortably) and played once every two weeks for about 5 months...I was at 9 footer level by then, and that was gradually going up a couple feet at a time. AAing (or in this case, SSing) a 9 footer came another month away.

Thank you very much for this inferiority complex the size of a blue whale I now have attached to my left ear lobe. Do you know how hard it is to dance with a 100 ton seabound mammal attached to your ear? Have you ever tried? Not easy.

Good point. But the majority of the people have ddrmax at home. If they don't it is much harder at the arcade. And much harder to learn.

Which is, of course, my ultimate downfall. I live 45 min. from the nearest machine, so I'm stuck with "sub-level" home mixes that everyone plays. So eventually Max 2 will come out and I'll have constant access to Maxx, but so will everyone else, except most of everyone else will have already gotten good at it from an arcade. So, I'm just going to be left in the dust regardless of how much I play. I HATE THIS!!!!!!!

I don't own any sort of DDR game, so I can't play it at home. My whole DDR experience, consists of playing at my local nicelcade. I 'grew' up playing Solo 2000, and then transferred to a 4th mix. By the time I was able to full combo every song on 4th mix, we upgraded to 7th mix. One of the first songs I tried was Max300 on Heavy, and I was able to pass it with a C.

*shrugs* Just thought I'd share that, pointing out that it doesn't take being much of a freak to beat the Maxes E13.gif And, to also point out that the majority of people DON'T own a DDR game at home. The arcade version of DDR is far more popular than the home version, so by that thinking, there's more arcade players than there are home players, thus making showing that the majority doesn't own one at home E13.gif

I'm new to DDR, but I'd try doing Sakura a few times. I've heard that song on Heavy is one heckuva stamina wiper.

Not really, Sakura's actually pretty easy. It's a LOT easier than any of the Maxes are.

No, Bag is the easiest 10-footer, if you speed it up enough to read the arrows correctly E10.gif Sakura is the next easiest level 10, followed by Max300, Unlimited, and Legend. In my opinion, that is E4.gif

No wonder I already passed Bag with a D on my first day... it's like really 6 or 7 feet with 3x speed up, right?

With both on 1x, bag is a good chunk harder to read than Sakura, but easier to do by a long shot. I can FC both on 1x, now. It took me longer to PASS bag (failed first try, B second try), but it took quite a bit of practice to get accurate enough to nail the (much more technically difficult) Sakura (A first try, but took me forever to FC).

On 3x+ bag is probably about an 8, I'd say. No 6 or 7-footer, because it still has awkward rhythms, but it's basically like Burning Heat! except... really slow (steps are about as fast as, like, Crash! or something) and easy to read (spaced out just as much, too).

When I said the majority of people own the home version I wasn't comparing it to people who play in th arcade just to let you know. In my opinon a lot of people that have a PS2 own DDRMax that play DDR. This data is based on the area where I live in. Anyways Max300 is hard to FC, but not to pass. I can only get an A on Max300 heavy. I can FC up to that freeze, but then I'm much to tired to FC the rest. I will AA Max300 someday... I just need more endurence. Bag isn't that hard once you learn the steps... In fact it's simple. Just consistently play on 2x or 1.5x to learn the steps and gradually lower the speed and soon enough you will be A'ing it on 1x. Unfortunately I haven't even played LOM yet E2.gif I've only played it on te extra stage, which I tend to fail at 15 seconds. At my local arcade they are neglecting to insert the last unlock code because they believe that it's non-compatible with the hardware. How absurd. Sakura is not hard at all either. It is surely a questionable ten footer. Paranoia survivor is a great song, but I have only played it 2 times with B's. That one part at the end throws me off completely. disturb.gif

I tried Max 300 in the arcades... I made it to the first freeze pair before flat out collapsing.

Well, Hockeyhairman, I bet you played at least once every day or two. And some people are naturally better than others. I was estimating a gross average of players I'd seen over my nine months of play time.

Three words: Dance With Intensity. That shot my reading ability through the roof. And I didn't quite play every day, but I watched quite a bit as well, both other people and videos.

It took me about 2 months to pass my first cata(i feel..) playing 2-4 times a week. It took me almost 4 months to pass a cata(Electo Tuned, C) with higher than a D, like 5 to pass a cata(Electro Tuned) with an A at home, and like 6 to pass a cata(Be Lovin') with an A in the arcade. It took me like 7 to pass 300. It took me like 7 1/2 to FC a cata(Tsugaru Apple). It took me like 8 to AA a cata(Twilight Zone). I only AAed it twice though. And I played it today and got 66 greats(lame).

No, you are not a freak if you can pass any of the Maxes. I'm still working on passing one of them on Heavy. Which one is the easiest one on Heavy? I'm guessing it's Maxx Unlimited, but I don't really know for sure. If anyone would tell me, I'd appreciate it.

If you rape, 300 gets a lot easier; It's just a matter of speed and reading. Unlimited has a lot more technical ability involved (jumps, gallops, freeze-gallops, etc.).
